Because there are those who are more concerned with winning an election and voting for the one with their favorite letter next to the candidates' names than voting for principled candidates.

Yeah, you mean the overwhelming, vast majority of people do that. And you're right. I really wish that wasn't human nature, but it is. I'd love for 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc, party's to matter, but they don't in our system. You can try to swim against the tide and cast a useless write-in or 3rd party vote, but I am not going to try to fight human nature. It doesn't work and you'll never accomplish a thing. Want to blame someone, blame the founders. I personally wish we had a way to form coalition governments, but we don't. The system they set up, despite what many wished for, turned into a 2 party system immediately - and has stayed that way ever since. Blah, blah, blah, whigs, blah, blah... The GOP simply replaced the Whigs as the second stool of the 2 party system. And in 235 years something that significant happened once - and we still ended up with said 2 party system.

So yeah, you're choice is Romney/Ryan or Obama/Biden. Period. Stop trying to fool yourself into thinking it is anything other than that. General elections are NOT an affirmative endorsement of any candidate/ticket, they are simply a choice between the 2 options that have any chance to win.

*BUMP* to your well said words.

These people deluding themselves into voting for fringe candidates need only go back to 1968 which was the last time that a third party actually made an impact on an election when the American Independent Party ticket of Governor George Wallace of Alabama and retired USAF General Curtis LeMay carried five southern states for a total of 46 electoral votes.

No other third party has even come close to that in the 44 years since.

I'm under no delusion as to who the candidates are, my friend. Neither am I trying to fool myself into believing that Romney is in stark contrast with Obama. Voting for Romney is simply replacing a Black Mamba with a King Cobra.

The GOP has made it clear even as recently as yesterday that it doesn't not need nor want my conservative ideals sullying their club. Which is fine... I will simply shake the dust off my feet and take my vote elsewhere.

Don't misunderstand, I'm not voting for Obama either... but my non-vote for Romney is not a vote in favor of Obama.
