A relative of labor leader Cesar Chavez, filed a legal challenge on Tuesday to have a man using his grandfather's name stricken from the ballot in Arizona. The challenge, alleges that the man who changed his name to Cesar Chavez from Scott Fistler should be removed from the primary election ballot for misleading voters in the largely Hispanic seventh congressional district.

Cesar was one of a kind fine, tough, smart (sometimes not), and dedicated. In Chaves, god gave a leader who combined the best of Abe Lincoln and Terry Powderl.

Is the reason for changing your name a dis-qualifying agent for anything?

Since when is changing your name illegal?

Who can have a copywrite on a name? If that legal, I’ll claim “John Smith” and sue everybody that uses it without my permission.

Would he have qualified otherwise? If so, then he should be on the ballot.

Do they think the famous Cesar Chavez is the only person ever named Cesar Chavez?

In California, female Hispanic candidates who are married to anglo men regularly revert to their maiden names when they run in a Hispanic district. It’s kind of hard to see how a BMW driving woman, living in a million dollar house, with kids in private schools, can in any way claim to be representative of the Hispanic community, but they do. In a number of instances, they rented apartments to establish residence in the Hispanic community, while continuing to live with the rich folks.

I’d give these guys a lot more credit if they’d also filed suit against the guy who changed his name to Donald Duck for not being an actual fowl.

Rab loves the Cong Dornan.
