“no access to neighborhood supermarkets. For those without much money or options, fast food can be a blessing”

I wondered why they couldn’t make a nice, hot, nutritious, cheap meal of beans and cornbread, like I was raised on and still eat.

But apparently they only have “access” to the fast food joint. Whatever that means.

My late father’s “school lunch” on those rare days he was able to attend was a piece of cornbread with a bit of lard on top.
