This is the problem of privilege. It skews our ability to grasp what the world looks like outside our view.
The absence of white athletes kneeling for the anthem Sunday was a particularly illustrative moment in white privilege.
See, for white athletes the anthem and American flag do represent freedom, liberty and whatever other amorphous American values one might ascribe these symbols. So, from their view, kneeling would be disrespectful to the privileges a white supremacist nation affords them.
We’ve all heard the typical argument against kneeling. “Kneeling during the anthem disrespects the flag and the soldiers who fought for your right to protest and blah blah blah patriotism!”
Now, I’m not going to spend much time with the most obvious counter, but it’s worth stating. In the fairytale we Americans tell ourselves where soldiers fight wars for freedom and not imperial conquests, the story says they’re fighting for someone’s right to protest, not the opposite. So using the troops as a cudgel against protest wholly misunderstands even our own national fairytale.
So, that’s obvious enough, but what I’m talking about is this. If white athletes can’t fathom kneeling because they feel soldiers fought for their rights and blah blah blah patriotism, it’s because they are treated as full citizens and afforded those rights they imagine soldiers fought for. Interpreting their own experience as something more universal, they struggle to understand why anyone should kneel. Indeed, for them, the anthem and American flag represent promises fulfilled....

Where is the tipping point for regular white and black NFL players who see these thugs not only disrespecting their country but also killing their golden goose? If this were happening to me I would not just roll over and alow these thugs to make me as guilty as them by association.

Tonight on Hannity, his guest O’Reilly said these people will not stop. He said they are coming after our Constitution, Capitalism, the Electoral College, etc.
He then looked right into the camera at the viewers, pointed his finger at them and said “The only thing that will stop them is.....YOU.”
It was a cold, sobering moment, one I hope many millions of couch potatoes witnessed.
Yet another racist creep uses his own freedom of speech to bash the men and women who defended it for him. He isn’t even original, nor is he intelligent enough to recognize the irony in “America is evil and it’s my Constitutional right to say so!” Go away, junior, the adults are trying to have a conversation here.

Along with the usual drunk driving and disorderly conduct arrests, there were 7 arrests for assault/battery, 6 for drugs and 5 for domestic violence.
The Seattle Seahawks announced that they weren’t going to “participate in the national anthem” because of the “injustice that has plagued people of color in this country”. While they lost that game, they are one of the top ranked teams in arrests. Alongside the Los Angeles Rams, the Green Bay Packers and the New York Jets, all of whom showed some solidarity with the anti-American protests, these top NFL criminal teams have racked up arrests for domestic violence, drugs, DUI and assault and battery.
Is it any wonder they think the justice system is unfair? They’re criminals.
Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall was one of the early players to reject the Anthem. The Broncos supported his actions. As his teams have supported him during nine domestic violence accusations.
Did any of the women he stabbed, punched or choked have any choice about taking a knee?
It’s no wonder that so many of the NFL’s millionaire scumbags are eager to join Colin Kaepernick’s protests against the justice system by degrading our anthem.
