I also know that Kashoggi was an activist associate of the Muslim Brotherhood, writing as a supposed “jorunalist” but all the time promoting anti-Saudi themes of the Muslim Brotherhood.
And as much as I think poltiical assassinations are not the moral way for statecraft, I understand that the Saudis see the Muslim Brotherhood as an existential threat.
We “arrested” and detained terrorists at GITMA for years for much the same reason. Much more “humane” than the fate of Kashoggi, but “I get it”.
Kashoggi was in Islamist-dominated Khartoum, Sudan, in 1993; he was the first journalist to get a sit-down with Osama Bin Laden. Thereafter, he was Al Qaeda’s favorite journalist.
