USA’s Military Empire: A Visual Database
worldbeyondwar ^

Posted on 11/16/2022 4:52:57 PM PST by algore

The United States of America, unlike any other nation, maintains a massive network of foreign military installations around the world.

How was this created and how is it continued? Some of these physical installations are on land occupied as spoils of war. Most are maintained through collaborations with governments, many of them brutal and oppressive governments benefiting from the bases’ presence. In many cases, human beings were displaced to make room for these military installations, often depriving people of farmland, adding huge amounts of pollution to local water systems and the air, and existing as an unwelcome presence.

Please help spread the word that information about USA’s military empire is available to the public.

This database is a work in progress, using information gathered from various public data sources. If you see errors or omissions, please let us know.

World BEYOND War is seeking funding to continue the research, data collection and software development for this project and other related map/database projects highlighting the problems of global militarization. We hope to improve this app in the following three ways:

Include More Countries

The current version only includes data about USA’s foreign military outposts, but future versions of this app will include information about foreign military bases maintained by all nations.

Increased Scope of Information About Each Base

Much information is available about the effect of foreign military bases on local communities and populations. We hope to track more data points covering more aspects of the severe problems caused by these military outposts.

Impressive map. This is something that conservatives who don’t value “entangling alliances” can support along with liberal pacifists.

Wonder how much we would save if we just got rid of most of these bases.

The only ones I’m concerned about. If I’m Ivan 1 liter, I’m looking at this build up and seeing Poland, June, 41. Any war hawks around here, if on the other side, hair would be on fire over this. Incredibly dangerous. In VegPres, we trust.

NATO’s military presence in the eastern part of the Alliance is a key part of NATO’s strengthened deterrence and defence posture, which has been enhanced in recent years to reflect the new security reality in the Euro-Atlantic area. Russia’s illegal and illegitimate annexation of Crimea and full-fledged invasion of Ukraine have fundamentally changed the security environment in Europe, and NATO has responded by significantly strengthening its readiness to protect and defend all Allies. The forward presence of Allied forces is defensive, proportionate, transparent and in line with the Alliance’s international commitments and obligations. It represents a significant commitment by Allies and is a tangible reminder that an attack on one NATO Ally is an attack on all.

NATO’s forward presence comprises eight multinational battlegroups, provided by framework nations and other contributing Allies on a voluntary, fully sustainable and rotational basis. The battlegroups operate in concert with national home defence forces and are present at all times in the host countries.

The battlegroups are not identical; their size and composition are tailored to specific geographic factors and threats. Overall, military requirements guide each battlegroup’s composition. Today, troops and personnel from all Allies serve, train and exercise together, representing a strong expression of Alliance unity and solidarity.

As of October 2022, the eight battlegroups are composed of the following Allies:

Host nation: Bulgaria
Framework nation: Italy
Contributing nations: Albania, Greece, North Macedonia and the United States

Host nation: Estonia
Framework nation: United Kingdom
Contributing nations: Denmark, France and Iceland

Host nation: Hungary
Framework nation: Hungary
Contributing nations: Croatia, Italy, Montenegro, Türkiye and the United States

Host nation: Latvia
Framework nation: Canada
Contributing nations: Albania, Czechia, Italy, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain

Host nation: Lithuania
Framework nation: Germany
Contributing nations: Belgium, Czechia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Norway

Host nation: Poland
Framework nation: United States
Contributing nations: Croatia, Romania and the United Kingdom

Host nation: Romania
Framework nation: France
Contributing nations: North Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, the Netherlands and the United States

Host nation: Slovakia
Framework nation: Czechia
Contributing nations: Germany, the Netherlands and Slovenia

The four north-eastern battlegroups (in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland) are under NATO command through the Multinational Corps Northeast Headquarters in Szczecin, Poland. Two division-level headquarters coordinate training and preparation activities of their respective battlegroups. Multinational Division Northeast Headquarters located in Elblag, Poland has been fully operational since December 2018. This headquarters works closely with the battlegroups in Poland and Lithuania. A complementary Multinational Division North Headquarters was activated by NATO in October 2020 and is moving towards full operational capability. Its forward elements are located in Adazi, Latvia, while the rest of the headquarters is located in Karup, Denmark. This headquarters cooperates closely with the battlegroups in Estonia and Latvia.

The four new battlegroups (in Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia) are currently being set up and integrated into NATO’s command structure.

In addition, many activities undertaken by Allies nationally – while not formally part of NATO’s forward presence – also contribute to increased Allied activity in the eastern part of the Alliance.

Check out Rapid Reinforcement too. What the heck does Putin see here?

The information itself is interesting.

The presentation is poisonously Leftist, as the other poster implied, given the source.

Yes, wildly misleading. Vienna Austria is apparently a U.S. military base. Uh huh.

Don’t you know, algore, that FR has an ideologically approved list of sources and if the information doesn’t come from them we should remain ignorant?

Some folks tried to warn (me included) that Qanon was never about making America great, it was about making America the bad guy. Many freepers have swallowed their propaganda, and now anti-American propaganda is freely posted on FR as "woke" and "red pilled", while at the same time pushing "Russians are the good guys".

Massively exaggerated. They have a very loose use of the word “base.”
