A suspect has chewed off an elderly man's ear and some of his face in a horrific attack on a Portland train platform.
The injuries were so severe that some of the 78-year-old man's skull was exposed after the violent attack in the suburb of Gresham in the state of Oregon on Tuesday morning.
Police were able to intervene but not before the elderly man was left sickeningly maimed, authorities said after the attack.
Police arrested 25-year-old suspect Koryn Kraemer and booked him on an accusation of assault in the second degree.
Authorities are also investigating as to whether drug use may have prompted Kraemer´s behavior.
The attack occurred in the early hours of the morning on a MAX train platform, the metropolitan area express service in Portland.
Police said they responded to the vicious incident at around 2.17 am where witnesses had reported an attack with a significant amount of blood.
Gresham Police Officers and a Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded thinking the attack had been a stabbing.
When they arrived at the Cleveland Avenue MAX platform, the responding officers found the suspect still engaging in the attack and lying on top of the elderly victim, police said

It sure does. Those people get crazy.
I had to go see an ENT. While there I saw several patients with a lot of their face gone that had to be patched. Probably cancer type issues.
Once again, I was reminded that I could never ever work in the medical profession.
