Following a visit to Disneyland in August, 1959, my father complained that we had spent too much money there. For our family of five, the entry fee and ride tickets, food and parking set us back a whopping $30.00!

I was there even before it became Disneyland. My uncle had a chicken ranch on the site. It was there that I first heard roosters crow in the morning. Some of those roosters may have wound up lying next to some mashed potatoes, peas, and a roll with boysenberry jam, because Knott's Berry Farm was one of my uncle's clients. By the way, my mother worked at Knott's as a waitress at the time of Henry Wallace's vice presidency.

I haven't been to Disneyland since 1969, and I live nine miles away.

Cursory review online indicates $30 in 1959 is equivalent to $317 today.

We can all do some math and see that Disney has gone way up in price after adjusting for inflation.

I used to live in Fullerton and we would go several times a year, usually when we had visitors. We could see the fireworks every night from our upstairs bedrooms. Our last visit was in 2002. I don’t think I will ever go back again.
