Monterey County District Attorney Jeannine M. Pacioni announced Friday that a man was sentenced to 15 years in prison after he allegedly attacked a prostitute with a machete back in April 2023.
Felipe Saavedra, 38, of Salinas, was found guilty of one count of forcible rape and one count of assault with a deadly weapon with an enhancement for causing great bodily injury. The now-convicted rapist will have to also register as a sex offender for the rest of his life, said Pacioni.
Salinas Police told KSBW at the time of the initial arrest that the victim and her attacker were engaged in prostitution at the time of the attack.
After an altercation, Saavedra went out to his car, grabbed a machete and attacked the 24-year-old female victim, according to investigators.
Pacioni said that Jane Doe told the victim to stop having sex with her multiple times and brandished a folding knife and was able to get him to stop. That's when he grabbed the machete, chased after her and swung at her in the legs several times when she fell.

Is it normal for Salinas prostitutes to walk around carrying a machete?
