PS.

I did not say I was an anarchist. I said if I leaned any direction it was that way. And I only use the classical definition of the word.

History disagrees with you, BADJOE. I'm not aware of any society which ever existed without government, not even Margaret Mead's falsified South Sea island peoples. Even a simple "Head Man" is a government. But ... do you really believe that the United States could continue as a viable nation with only a "Head Man" and no other person or institution between him and the people? Or is it your position that we don't even need a "Head Man"?

I doubt that such a configuration would ever have worked, but now, considering that we've lost two, maybe three, generations to simplistic education and minimal standards and now have a population largely benumbed into believing that "free" television and Nike's are the ultimate heaven on earth, do you really expect them to "get along" with no external controls at all?

The anarchists suffer from the same deblitating malady as the libertarians; they believe that given the chance everyone else will come to see their wisdom and believe as they do. It's a dream, BADJOE; there will always be the man waiting around the corner to take from you what you are too weak to keep for yourself. And there's always someone stronger, just waiting for half a chance.

Anarchy is chaos. As would be a true libertarian government.

Every single state had a government.

It took them a while to decide on the right formula for a federal government. They tried a very weak confederacy and found that it was a recipie for a return to tyranny. It would be a shame if that lesson is forgotten in our zeal to roll back the monstrosity that the federal behemoth has become.

They wrote our Constitution. To say Washington, Jefferson, Adams, Franklin, and especially Madison et al didn't set up a government is revisionist history. 9

Today's Government can't keep anybody from stealing anything. Like I said they will sell you retribution at monopolistic prices after the fact. If they catch them.

My buddies will keep you from stealing it before the fact.

Go live in northern Jersey or in Little Italy or anywhere the mafia rules and try to live according to such a mindset.

I expect to educate them through the power of reasoning. Am I a dreamer? You bet. But it takes those of us who dream to move cilization ahead.

We could hardly have more chaos than we have now.

No doubt . Some of us would be dead. Maybe them, maybe me.

But for damn sure government CANNOT keep it from happening.

Don't count on your buddies. They'll want your property too. Assuming I have a conscience, the current "law" does prevent me from taking what is yours because I don't want to spend my life in jail (or worse). But if there is no law, then I am free to take whatever I can successfully gain. I will be bigger than you, my gun will shoot farther and more precisely than your silly little S&W, and your buddies won't be around after they've already taken what they could get.

"We could hardly have more chaos than we have now."

You can't be serious! I've lived in utter chaos for months at a time. What we have now is not what I would call "the best," or even "good" most of the time, but it's not even close to chaos (unless you live in the inner city ghetto somewhere...).

And what do you call, our present public school system if not chaotic.?

And what did you call the events of 9-11?

Government sure as hell can't teach kids to read or do math.

And it did nothing to protect those folks in the World Trade center.

Of course government did extract some retribution. At monopolistic prices I might add.

You all seem to know so much. Let me ask questions. Let's say our country had anarchy type control when 9-11 happened. How would a country without government be able to defend itself? Would we have a private military? With private funding? Private R&D, etc. Who would pay for the services? And if we had a private military, would it be a monopoly? And if that military force was a monopoly, wouldn't they try to control the citizens because quite possibly the head of the military may be a tyrant? If we had competing military forces, wouldn't they try to eliminate each other? If my state was under attack from a foreign enemy and didn't have the funds, would we loss that state? Is this what could happen under anarchy?

Why on earth would you believe that only government can do the job?

I believe that there is absolutely nothing that governments can do that private enterprize can't do better, faster, and cheaper.

I didn't say I believed only government could do it. I wanted to know the alternatives, the drawbacks and how it could be acomplished.

First every individual who choose should be armed.
Second private mecenaries would bid to do the haevt fighting . Those with the best equipment for the buck gets the job. Paid vuluntarily by those of us who care.

Neither Politics nor Diplomacy would not enter into the decision to defend. You screw with us and you die.

And it would be lot's less expensive than our current boondoggle wasteful spending.

Who would decide who made the best bid? Who would organize and lead and make the critical military decisions? What if enough didn't care and didn't pay?
