I'm not sure the illegal immigrant problem can be solved without solving some social problems here at home.

Illegal immigrants on the whole do the jobs that the poor used to do, before welfare & other social programs made it more profitable for them not to work. Minimum wage & social security laws are also a problem for some of these jobs...not profitable to hire someone legally.

The jobs need to be done, and if no one who is here legally will do them, the employers have a motivation to hire illegals (who WILL show up regularly, and WILL do the work).

I'm not sure I know the answer, and I feel the government should be doing more to stop illegals, but I don't think the problem will be solved until the above is addressed.

You bet it is. If we don't stand up and fight now it will be too late. Americans have always been willing to stand up and fight to preserve this country but I sure don't think they had this in mind. Fighting to preserve a welfare state for illegals was never in the picture.

I agree with you. I was making the point that if we don't put all the pressure we can on the 2 major parties and let them know where we the American voters stand nothing will happen. All that will happen is another Ross Perot effct. Politicians need to know before 2004 what the real issues are in this country. The reason I get letters from Bush and my congressmen concerning illegals and immegration is because I am constantly sending them letters concerning these issues.

Kinda funny that I don't see my county or it's neighbors on there - and we have a HUGE influx of Hispanics within the past three years. My town has it's own "hispanic employment agency" where spanish is the primary language - you cannot be employed there unless you speak it.

Getting these illegals out of America would do more good than harm in my opinion.

We've all cleaned toilets and made beds at one time or another. Why do we need aliens to do it for us now? Guest worker programs have worked before and will work again. We just need to convince other Americans that this is the right way to do it. Having our politicians allow criminals to sneak in and commit more crimes isn't the way I want to see us governed.

I don't want foreign criminals in America.

How is this information obtained?

I asked a builder in our area (several actually), if he hired ilegal aliens. The response was total silence and refusal to acknowledge such a question had even been asked.

The University Hospital and other places are full of them.

We are bringing in foreigners more and more in medical facilities because of shortages (esp nurses). This is just a bandaide approach. We need more classes. Where I live only about 30 applicants out of probably 300 qualified candidates are accepted a year. CD

JMO but until this mess can be fixed, I think we need to push for getting rid of the IRS and property taxes and have a national sales tax with no rebates or loopholes. At least that way the ones here would have to pay for social services and school taxes. When the government keeps having to raise the tax maybe more people would protest. CD

Yes, there is a terrible shortage throughout the country. There is a lot going wrong in the medical community...shortages is only a small part of the problem, imo. But wasn't it a part of the Hillary plan to limit the educational opportunity in the medical field? Far too much money goes into administrating bs plans in our society, from education to contributions.

Have you ever questioned why there is a shortage of medical personell? #1 We are growing older. #2 We have probably 40 million illegal aliens from around the world in our country. A large percentage are not paying anything for their medical services. No profit equals a shortage.

I think the idea of a website that puts together a blacklist by states, county and community of businesses that are identified as employers of illegals will help drive the point home to corporate America that this is unacceptable.

Fostering a boycott of these businesses, shining the light of wrongdoing on them will help stop their practices.

If every individual in their community would step up it would help rid our country of illegal aliens. In fact, I'll help pay for such a website.

One more here. I agree that something must be done. My wife and her co-workers were recently told by their boss that he could easily replace them with "dumb-ass Mexicans"(his words not mine).We know of one such worker that is working there with a false SS# obtained by her newlywed American husband(married and impregnated her before they deported her).
