Good point. Note that at the time of Jesus, the orthodox and the most learned rejected Jesus. Those who followed him were not scholars, but simple folk, fisherman, common men and women. For the establishment religious leaders, their knowledge was an obstacle to understanding Jesus.
Rev. Moon says that John the Baptist was the biggest obstacle to Jesus. John was a popular figure at the time with thousands of followers. His father was a leader in the temple.
Although he testified to Jesus at the River Jordan, he did not unite with Jesus and while in prison sent followers to ask Jesus if he was the promised one. Jesus was John's cousin and he must have heard the rumors about Jesus. John was a big shot and Jesus, at the time, was a nobody. He should have been Jesus' 1st disciple but he went his own way, got entangled in some stupid affair and lost his life.
So the question... how to know when a new idea is genuinely from God is a good one. Orthodoxy, knowledge, position and power were obstacles at the time of Jesus. The ones who saw Jesus for what he was were humble and sincere. Humility, sincerity and prayer are the only way to sort things out.
1) Moon's New Age religious beliefs may be entirely valid, and he and his followers have a right to practice them. Certainly, however, Americans ought to know about it when their Congressmen hold an event on federal property claiming to unite Christianity in the name of the United Nations.
2) The event was the grand finale of a "tear down the cross" tour of over 100 American churches. Again, a lot of taxpayers might have strong opinions about a campaign to remove the symbol of Christianity from church walls, which goes a lot further than anything the ACLU ever thought up. For some reason it wasn't covered in the press.
3) Keep in mind we're talking about a guy who talks about whomping his followers with a baseball bat.
So all of this is, I think, really interesting and everyone in America ought to know as much as possible about the heavy hitters who influence their political lives, whether it's George Soros or Reverend Moon. For some reason, hardly anyone knows about this Moon stuff, and the press never writes about him.
By the way, the phrase King of Peace seems to originate from the seventh chapter of Hebrews. It refers to a king/priest who helped out Abraham, and who is often read as a foreshadowing of Jesus. (Nothing about whomping people with a Louisville Slugger, though.)
Thanks for reading.
John
So, I guess, we in our own time are to be heterodox and ignorant. Forget all that stuff about "study to show thyself approved" and "with all thy getting get understanding".
Joe Smith also attracted the ignorant. Jim Jones: appealed to some of the ignorant, humble, and sincere. Benny Hinn: appeals to some of the ignorant, humble, and sincere. You obviously like Moon. Tell me, on the basis of what you've said, why is Moon preferable to Benny Hinn? Do you even have a reason?
