ATLANTA (GoodNewsAmerica.us) August 21, 2004 - The Swift Boat Veterans For Truth have come under attack from the John Kerry after releasing two ads and a book questioning his service of in Vietnam. The attack involves the Kerry Campaign threatening television stations for running the ads, calling on the books publisher to withdraw the book, and asking the FEC to ban the airing the ads.
On August 5 DNC and Kerry lawyers sent a memo to television station managers in an attempt to muzzle the Swift Boat Vet's ads. The memo stated that the stations would be held responsible for false and libelous charges made by the Swift Boat Veterans. They charged that Veterans in the ad had said they served on Kerrys Swift Boat. However, none of the men in the ad had ever claimed to be on the Kerrys Swift Boat.
Friday Kerry campaign spokesman, Chad Clanton, told Salon.com that the publisher of Unfit For Command should withdraw the book. He says the book is a hoax based on proven falsehoods. No falsehoods have been proven or documented concerning the Swift Vets. The book contains 64 individual accounts from Vets that served with Kerry.
Later Friday, CNN reported that the Kerry Campaign sought to have the government block the Swift Vet ads from running. They are claiming illegal collusion between the Swift Boat Vets and the Bush Administration. Their charge is that a wealthy donor from Texas, who donated money to the Swift Vets, is involved in a web of connection with the President. The Bush Administration has dismissed the claims as "frivolous and false".
The Kerry campaign publicly condemned the latest MoveOn.org ad smearing the President. However, they are yet to condemn any of the other attack ads from MoveOn.org, or any of the $12.6 million thus far in donations made to 527 groups by billionaire George Soros. In April, the Kerry Campaign hired the director of special projects from MoveOn.org, Zach Exley, to head up their online campaign efforts. At the point of his hiring, MoveOn.org had spent more that $2.5 million on ads attacking President Bush.
Kerry also called on the President to condemn these ads on Thursday. The fact is, the President already did. On March 31, the Bush Campaign filed a complaint with the FEC against the Kerry Campaign and 527 groups. On May 13 the Commission rejected the proposal to reign in unlimited spending on independent political groups. In June, the Bush finance team began urging wealthy donors to give to state parties in battleground states rather than independent groups. On August 5 the Bush Administration distanced itself from the Swift Vets calling for an "immediate cessation" of all 527 activity. The White House also urged the Kerry Campaign to join them in the condemnation.
The Kerry Campaign is trying to silence the Veterans that earned the right to tell their story. Instead of providing proof as to why their claims are false, they are directly attacking Swift Boat Vets, and blaming the President for sanctioning highly personal attacks.
Jul 8, 2004 Capitol Hill Blue headline: Republicans Unleash Attack Dogs on Edwards
Maureen Dowd 08-14-2004 - First lady Laura Bush is wildly popular with the American people, but not with New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd, who called her a GOP attack dog" this week for speaking out on stem cell research.
She's been dragged out to be a Republican attack dog on the most contentious issue, stem cell research, . . .
E.J. Dionne, Jr. - Washington Post Writers Group - 04.27.04 headline of story
GOP attack dogs smear Kerry's war record
Nope, I'm not kidding. The use of the word muzzle was to identify the Swifties as Attack Dogs.
If you go to the Johnkerry.com and use the search for attack dogs (meaning Republicans) 250 hits are returned.
john f'n kerry may think he can stop the Swift Boad ads but what about all the MoveOn.Org crap, Michael Moore etc. What's fair is fair and these communist fronts need to stop as well.
