Yes, no disagreement there. But lets us not forget to add that back then, WWII period, things where a little bit different, even taking into account "all those city slickers" that had to be toughend up, as General George S. Paton Jr. might have said. I guess I just got mixed thoughts on this issue. I think we all would admit, if a person signs up, then we know they are the type person that will at least try to do a good job. Often they enlist for purely patriotic purposes, or are young men trying to prove something. They fit the military way of life and can be depended on. Now if you draft a ultra liberal trained youth that hates the United States, hates what liberty stands for, hates the thought that some are willing to brave the rigors of military life, and if required go into mortal combat with an enemy of the United States, etc.....
what can we expect from such an individual when they are required to perform?
Will those currently in our military branches want to associate with those that hate the military outright? How
will some dear Marine feel when he knows there are those that where drafted and will not fight and protect that Marine's back during a fire fight feel? OR will the draft
just effect the Army? But then we still have the same problem, can't slight our modern fighting Army. They don't want sad sacks in their ranks. How would some Airborne guy feel as a known sad sack have to back him up as they jump into some Afgan village. Hey, do you think some Airforce pilot is going to feel comfortable knowing someone that hates America is working on his/her aircraft? Lets not forget our Navy. Is some fighter jock going to feel at ease that those that control the wires for him to land on may want to arrange a little accident so his aircraft pitches off the deck and blows up?
Now, just think of the huge amounts of tax payers monies that will be spent trying to train those that do not wish to serve but where forced to. Just think of how many dollars will be spent and wasted to try to get the slackers through basic training. As they drop out after a few weeks of boot camp, more, same types must replace them. Kids of that type now adays will know just what not to do to get booted out of boot camp after a few weeks. They are not like those that served in WWI,WWII,Korean War (yea it was a war), NAM, etc.. They have little upbringing in what made America great and could care less, THEY ARE FOR THEMSELVES.
So you might say, well then we don't have to worry about them. They will be weeded out! Yea, but how about the wasted tax dollars spent to process them, buss them to our military boot camps, first few weeks, or perhaps months taken to try to train them, only to then boot them out, or pass on those that are marginal and just may figure on getting back at those that ruined their lives.

That is one reason why the military had pushed for an all
voluntery Army etc., which lead to suspension of the draft.
As for Charlie Rangle and the other Demos pushing the House and Senate bills for a draft, believe me .........they
have this in mind....... ruin our military capabilities!
Then what? And remember what Zell Miller had to say at the recent RNC. .............spitballs!
War is hell, but slavery and subjugation by the UN and ultra liberal controlled government is worse then hell in
my humble opinion.

take care all

take care all.

Ten million of the fifteen million American soldiers who served in WWII were drafted. Conversely, five million were VOLUNTEERS. Is the US military 3 times as efficient as it was during WWII? Probably. I do know that my own dad VOLUNTEERED in both WWI and WWII, in WWII he was in no danger of being drafted, not only because of his age but because of the wounds he received in WWI which he then lied about so the Army would take him again!

Iraq has been relatively labor-intensive only because something completely different is being tried there. Conflict with the Islamic world has been a problem for the US since Thomas Jefferson (the Tripolitan War, 1800-1815), Mr. Bush correctly perceives that the conflict could go on for another 200 years unless something changes, and that change is Iraq.

The US could annihilate any other nation on earth (including Iraq right now) without anyone even getting up out of their chairs. We don't either need or want a draft.
