Peugeot, Citroen, and Ford

When I think of good engines, those names aren't high up on the list.

Welcome to FR.

French cars are not in the US for good reason. I doubt if their reliability is any better now than it was.

I own a VW diesel (TDI) that I have modded so it is now reliable and I do not need to take it into the dealership to fix what are basic engineering flaws in the design. If the Germans have sunk that low, I can only imagine what the French product would look like.

Should Peugeot return?

Only if they want to lose a lot of money. 'French' and 'cars' don't go together well. 'German' and 'cars' works. 'Swedish' and 'cars' work. But 'French' and 'cars' doesn't. They sure drove AMC into the ground.

'Buy a French car, be a laughingstock' is the reality of it.

I dunno, Edenic Leas, they look nice but French l'autos have acquired a well deserved reputation on this side of the pond for poor reliability and nonexistent logistic support. Add to that the screaming performance of a 1.4 litre diesel.

With France's most successful politicians making gratuitous anti-Americanism the centerpiece of their (soi-disant ) political "philosphe" and this might not be a good time to stage a reentry into the North American market.

This is what I think about when I hear a piece-of-junk Citroen:

Now, I used to drive a Peugot pickup truck (Peugot 504?) in Argentina that was a 5-speed with on-th-column (in the tree) gear shifting. That was a blast to drive.
