Johnny Carson died in a Los Angeles hospital with his wife and two sons at his bedside, People magazine reports.
Carson was at Cedars-Sinai Hospital, not at home as originally reported, when he died of emphysema Sunday at 79. His sons, Christopher and Cory, and his wife, Alexis, who Carson married in 1987, were with him.
The longtime Tonight show host was a heavy smoker, a habit his brother, TV producer Dick Carson, said he always regretted.
In our last conversation he kept saying, 'Those damn cigarettes, those damn cigarettes,' Dick Carson, director of the Merv Griffin Show, told the magazine. That was the recurrent theme. The damage had been done.
AKA coffin nails.
A common sentiment expressed by those who have emphysema. ....and their loved ones.
Yep, that's an important distinction.
Sounds like she was a remarkable woman. Still, she wouldn't have been wrong to have placed a degree of blame on the cigarettes - and their makers, since, as i've been told, they've put additives in them that heighten the addictive effect -- and in any case they're peddling a murderous product.
However, you should be proud of your mom for taking personal responsibility for herself. It is a quality that is far too rare in this country.
Just how harmful is environmental tobacco smoke?

Second-hand smoke isn't the issue.
Just a smoking ping.
