Canada to U.S.: All Our Ex-Pats Are Belong to Us, and Will Tell You What to Do

Toronto-- Long harboured Canadian resentment of Canada being annexed by the United States took a 90-degree angle on July 1 with Frank McKenna, Canada’s Ambassador to the United States, turning the tables. McKenna says he will organize the more than 1 million Canadians in the United States to lecture Americans.

McKenna, who’s already sent messages to 6,000 expatriates, intends to get in touch with 100,000 of them by week’s end. The rookie ambassador is pressing the "Canadian diaspora" to arm themselves with facts, to debate Americans and to get out and lobby when Washington makes decisions that can hurt Canadians, says the Toronto Star.

Fighting the U.S. on its own soil, albeit by stealth, McKenna is calling to action Florida snowbirds, northern exiles in Arizona, Hollywood comedians and actors, investment bankers in New York and professors and students at universities across the U.S.

Well, a 180 would be good for conservatives and Americans. A 90 degree in this case just means an unexpected turn, a flank attack so to speak.

No, that's the Canadian canoe test. You see, the trick is to keep your weight against the bulwarks and her weight...Oh, wait. Not in public, right. ;)

I, too, am tired of Canadians "lecturing" us.

It's even worse living here. The constant anti-Americanism gets really old, really fast.

The other day we were at the Canada day fireworks and a little boy behind me said, "Vive le Canada! Boo Les Etats-Unis!" I looked at my husband, sighed and rolled my eyes.

Why does Canada have to define itself by criticizing the U.S.?

Guess your compatriots are about to get a real ass whupping if they aren't careful.

I have a neighbor who is An ER doc like myself who is from Canada. Always lecturing about how superior Canada's health system is. One day at a meeting of local EMS chiefs I couldn't take it anymore and finally asked him, "Cyril if it's so great in Canada, why do you suffer so by practicing here?". He got very red in the face and just sputtered. The reason is clear, he makes a much better living here then he would in the Great White North.

They've been culturally annexed. Except for Quebec, Canada pretty has no national culture of its own.

Well,

"Long harboured Canadian resentment of Canada being annexed by the United States..."

At least they get to keep their British spelling of "harboured"...

I've noticed that Canadian culture is much more like that of Prince Edward Island than any other place on Earth.

Wow, this is amazing. Some ambassador. I thought an ambassador's job was to improve relationships?? I guess he's getting revenge for Paul Celluci--a lot of Canadians thought he was critical of Canada.

Canada is a beautiful country, but there's not a day that goes by that I don't miss the U.S. And a lot of that is due to the constant America-bashing I have to live with every day.

Good luck with your citizenship!

"...Canada being annexed..." this means the same thing as being flushed right? You know the ring-around-the bowl thingy. If so then it is time to wipe.

On the other hand maybe we should all just move to Canada, drive up all their prices, which will collapse the social government as it trys to keep pace with "services" (like cheap drugs). It shouldn' take us to long maybe a weekend - then Canada can report to Idaho till they learn some manners - see you in Canada.

Why, in the name of God, would we ever want to annex Canada?

PEI has it own unique culture. Newfoundland and Nova Scotia too. So does Acadia, Quebec, Northern Ontario (even middle Ontario, by which I mean northern south Ontario), Alberta, Manitoba, Sakatchewan and BC. Cape Breton, etc. etc. The problem is, these are regional, or even worse, local cultures. Canada has no positive unifying and self identifying national culture, nor does Toronto and southern Ontario really have their own unique culture.

By coincidence, that was the last thing I saw as turned off the tube last night.

It's still a big ol'PEI. Only difference is the Doultz in Nova Scotia is cheaper, and maybe a tad better, but I'd have to test quite a lot of it to see.
