I've submitted an opinion piece to the San Bernadino Sun. I shouldn't have to explain why I was compelled to comment; I think you'll understand as soon as you start reading:

Ebonics Suggested For District By Irma Lemus Staff Writer

SAN BERNARDINO - Incorporating Ebonics into a new school policy that targets black students, the lowest-achieving group in the San Bernardino City Unified School District, may provide students a more well-rounded curriculum, said a local sociologist.

The goal of the district's policy is to improve black students' academic performance by keeping them interested in school. Compared with other racial groups in the district, black students go to college the least and have the most dropouts and suspensions.

Blacks make up the second largest racial group in the district, trailing Latinos. A pilot of the policy, known as the Students Accumulating New Knowledge Optimizing Future Accomplishment Initiative, has been implemented at two city schools. Mary Texeira, a sociology professor at Cal State San Bernardino, commended the San Bernardino Board of Education for approving the policy in June.

Texeira suggested that including Ebonics in the program would be beneficial for students. Ebonics, a dialect of American English that is spoken by many blacks throughout the country, was recognized as a separate language in 1996 by the Oakland school board......

Why would it be pulled? It's not about race at all, it's about educational standards.

Many people don't seem to understand that lowering standards to make everyone 'appear' to perform better is the same as printing more money top pay debts. It makes the problem 'appear' to be solved, but it causes countless long-term corollary problems that take a lifetime to fix.

I was mistaken. It was my COMMENT that was pulled on a similar article posted today, that now has over 400 comments. I think i said "fo'shizzle my bizzle". Or maybe it was because I suggested citizens of this nation just call themselves "American", with no hyphenation.

I never had a comment pulled by a mod. I guess I got my blankety-blank broken today.

I totally agree about the hyphenation. I'm all for heritage, but I don't demand that people refer to me as an 'Anglo-Italian' American. Anyway, I'm not sure how well I would fit in over there.

It reminds me of a scene from the move, "Attica". The rioting prisoners are demanding a plane be sent to fly to them away to their real home in Africa.

One guy looks at another and says something like, "To Africa? But I'm from Detroit?"
