Former Law Partner on Roberts ("He'll almost certainly vote to overturn Roe")

One of John Roberts’ law partners at Hogan & Hartson was none other than Sandy “how’d that National Archive doc get in my pants” Berger.

When the President announced Roberts as the nominee, Berger was watching in a waiting room with radio host Michael Medved. Medved recalls this private conversation:

Berger: My God, my law partner! … He’s one of the most intelligent people I’ve ever met.

Medved: Like off-the-charts kind of intelligence?

Berger: Yes. In any meeting he’s always the smartest guy there. He’s just unbelievably smart. And he’s modest about it which makes him very hard to go up against.

Medved: What do you think, is he personally conservative, moderately conservative?

Berger: Very, very conservative. He’ll almost certainly vote to overturn Roe.

Medved: Will he be confirmed?

Berger: Yes, he will. He is a very charming guy, but he’ll be confirmed. There will be a fight though.

Medved: Why will there be a fight?

Berger: Because he’s so conservative.

Will be great if true, but Sandy Burglar's word is not trustworthy.

If he votes to overturn the Kelo, Ct. decision, he'll be okay.

I'm surprised he didn't back up his comments by pulling a Roberts file out of his pants and showing Medved pages of background info.

He left those in his other pair of pants.

The fact that Roberts was a partner to Sandy Berger makes me think Roberts is not truly conservative. The two would not co exist happily. It makes no sense. A conservative would be frustrated (or worse) daily with a liberal partner.

I think that's a lead pipe cinch.

If not, we've got real problems.

Well, keep in mind this wasn't a two-man office but a huge Washington law firm with lots of partners.

Not a "Hey, you want to go into practice together?" thing.

Not if he knew how to handle him. Berger comes off as a little intimidated by Roberts.

Don't large law firms have LOTS of partners? In fact, isn't that one of the things they hold out, kind of like tenure?
In other words, it wasn't "Roberts & Burglar attorneys at law."

Interesting, isn't it? Berger seems almost in awe of him.

Not true. Even in a small firm the two can co-exist if there is mutual trust and respect. In a large firm like Hogan it is very possible to despise a fellow partner but work for the same operation. The only time their paths would absolutely have to cross would be the annual Christmas party.

I do have one small concern, however silly. I noticed Roberts wife is a member of the American Bar Association. I don't know any pro-life conservatives who are members of that organization, and I know way too many lawyers.

Thanks for the report. And unlike his partner, John Roberts doesn't sneak out classified documents in his pants.

DID YOU READ THE ARTICLE YESTERDAY BY ANN COULTER POSTED HERE?
SHE NOTED THAT ROBERTS HAD NEVER STATED AN OPINION OF HIS OWN FOR 50 YEARS. HE REPRESENTED HIS CLIENTS.

ooooopppss!
Sorry for the caps. Just noticed it. No intention of shouting. Please forgive me .... I do not want to retype the above.

Wouldn't it be a 'coup; if they (the liberals) got a ringer by us? That essentially is what happened with the former President Bush Senior. His nomination to the Supreme turned out to be liberal..

Of course the liberals will have to make it look good. We need to look at this John Roberts closely. A true unknown as to his politics ... according to Ann Coulter.
