Audio of John G. Roberts, Jr.'s arguments before Supreme Court
John Lott ^ | 7/24/05 | John Lott

Mr. Roberts has not left much of paper trail of judicial opinions or even speeches and extemporaneous comments, leading some conservatives, including the great Ann Coulter, to fear that we have another Souter on our hands.

I don't have the knowledge to weigh in on this subject, but I did find, courtesy of John Lott (author of More Guns, Less Crime) a list of RealAudio recordings of Supreme Court oral arguments in which Roberts was one of the advocates. Of course, in these cases he as adopting the positions of his clients, but nevertheless listening to these arguments should, I imagine, provide some insight into the man's style of thinking.

Below is the list of cases; click the above link for links to the RealAudio files:

First Options v. Kaplan (March 22, 1995) argued the cause for the respondents

Adams v. Robertson (January 14, 1997) argued the cause for the respondents

Alaska v. Native Village of Venetie Tribal Government (December 10, 1997) argued the cause for the petitioner Feltner v. Columbia Pictures Television, Inc. (January 21, 1998) argued the cause for the petitioner

NCAA v. Smith (January 20, 1999) argued the cause for the petitioner

Rice v. Cayetano (October 6, 1999) argued the cause for the respondent

Day-um. Since I live on dial-up, I lack the time to download all of these nice tidbits. One of the greatest challenges in this world is to be on your feet in front of nine sharp but conflicting intellects who can and will interrupt you at any time with a radical change of questions.

Consider it talk radio raised to the 10th power. LOL.
