I haven't forgotten....

Posted on 09/10/2005 5:50:26 PM PDT by rip033

My son tonight came to me and asked me what happened on 09/11. He's getting older now. He's no longer a toddler but a young boy. He and I went on the web and brought up several web sites and viewed the photos of that day four years ago. As he looked at the pictures he asked me if people are still sad for what happened on that day. I told him I was. After we got done with the looking at the photos and talking about it we were walking upstairs and in the middle of the hall he turned and explained to me that he wanted to show me something. He then stood tall and said the pledge of alligence word for word. My eyes began to well up because it was the first time I had ever saw him say it. When he got done he asked me if anyone would forget what happened on September 11th and I whispered "I'll haven't forgotten". As I sit here tonight I just wanted to make this post and remember all those whose lives ended suddenly on that horrible day and those who were left behind I wanted to just say, I haven't forgotten.. God bless all of them.

That's pretty derned nice. Thanks for sharing. I have no personal friends or family who "have forgotten." Even my beautiful fiancee told me recently how she'll occasionally read the FR threads from 9/11, and we spent time on the phone sharing our "where were you" stories again. We didn't know each other then, but our reaction was the same.

Yesterday my son and I looked at Jeff Head's page link to the 9-11 tribute page. My son hadn't really remembered too much of it. His birthday was yesterday and his brother's birthday is Tuesday. On 9-11 I was out shopping for a double birthday party for them when I saw footage on Wal-Mart's in-store TVs. Now that they are 12 and almost 14, they understand it better, knowing who al-qaeda is and why we are in Iraq, but their birthdays will always be tinged with sadness, and we will always take an online tour to remember the heroes of flight 93 and the rescue workers.

God bless your son. It never ceases to amaze me how our children understand the gravity of what happens around them.

Thanks so much for sharing!

Our family has not forgotten either........thanks for posting.

Tonight at Mass I was so disappointed that not one mention was made about 911.
I waited outside to mention this to the Pastor. This did not sit well. He said there was mention of 911 in the flyer. And I told him that this article took a slap at the White House (where they found this garbage is beyond me)
It was a piece by Patrice J.Tuohy, named "Once You Get Past The Pain".

Did anyone else have this in their bulletin?

I'm in Germany bring home the Wounded Warriors so I am not at church. So I am not sure, what is sad is that with that train of thought there is no support for the Warriors that protect this nation.....to me that is a sin.....

I was brousing here a few minutes ago and came across a thread about a controversy over flying the flag in a small town, that took place on September 10, 2001. That thread has since been pulled (I have no idea why), but I will say what I wanted to say here instead.

I live in Houston, Tx, and before the sun set on September 11, there was absolutely no place to look in this city where you could not see a flag. I don't know about where you are, but here, Old Glory is our very heart, our voice, our way of banding together and staying alive.

Tell your son that I am proud to know him.

God Bless America

When the war first started, every week we would include prayers for our troops.
No more.
I suspect maybe some of the more liberal parishioners complained.

I am seeking another parish.
