NEWT: CLINTON COMMITTED ONE OF WORST CRIMES, ENDANGERED COUNTRY IF HIT ABDULLAH UP FOR CASH

by Mia T, 10.6.05

In another revelation, Freeh says the former president let down the American people and the families of victims of the Khobar Towers terror attack in Saudi Arabia. After promising to bring to justice those responsible for the bombing that killed 19 and injured hundreds, Freeh says Clinton refused to personally ask Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah to allow the FBI to question bombing suspects the kingdom had in custody -- the only way the bureau could secure the interviews, according to Freeh. Freeh writes in the book, "Bill Clinton raised the subject only to tell the crown prince that he understood the Saudis' reluctance to cooperate and then he hit Abdullah up for a contribution to the Clinton Presidential Library." Says Freeh, "That's a fact that I am reporting."

FBI FREEH UNLOADS ON CLINTON: 'CLOSETS WERE FULL OF SKELETONS'
Drudge Report | 10/06/05

October 6--Newt Gingrich, appearing tonight on Hannity and Colmes, was asked to comment on the revelations by former FBI Director Louis Freeh, that bill clinton, when president, attempted to extort money from the Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah for the Clinton Presidential Library by using the threat of siccing the FBI on the Khobar Towers bombing suspects the kingdom had in custody.

Gingrich, outraged, said that if clinton did this, he committed one of the worst crimes in modern history and endangered the country. He added that it would be important for Freeh and his sources to testify about this under oath.

WHY DID BILL CLINTON IGNORE TERRORISM?
Was it simply the constraints of his liberal mindset, or was it something even more threatening to our national security?

DISCUSSION

"I remember exactly what happened. Bruce Lindsey said to me on the phone, 'My God, a second plane has hit the tower.' And I said, 'Bin Laden did this.' that's the first thing I said. He said, 'How can you be sure?' I said 'Because only bin Laden and the Iranians could set up the network to do this and they [the Iranians] wouldn't do it because they have a country in targets. Bin Laden did it.'

I thought that my virtual obsession with him was well placed and I was full of regret that I didn't get him."

"Mr. bin Laden used to live in Sudan. He was expelled from Saudi Arabia in '91 and he went to the Sudan.

We'd been hearing that the Sudanese wanted America to start dealing with them again. They released him [bin Laden].

At the time, '96, he had committed no crime against America, so I did not bring him here because we had no basis on which to hold him, though we knew he wanted to commit crimes against America.

So I pleaded with the Saudis to take him, 'cause they could have; but they thought it was a hot potato. They didn't and that's how he wound up in Afghanistan."

WRITTEN IN STONE: AN ARCHITECT DEFINES THE CLINTONS

f mutability of meaning was necessary for the survival of the clintons--their survival hinged ultimately on the deconstruction of words and laws--it is more than a little ironic, and a manifestation of the special sway and shortsightedness of the pathologic ego, that clinton's monument to himself will necessarily define the clintons with the permanence of great inviolate places of iconic architecture.

Whereas a huckster removes meaning from institutions--the wife picked up where the husband left off--an architect encodes meaning in buildings. James S. Polshek, the architect with the dubious distinction of having been commissioned to build the William J. Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock, Arkansas, believes that a successful architectural solution must necessarily be rooted in relevance.

Just as Polshek's buildings have physical layers, so too do they have layers of meaning. His Rose Center for Earth and Space, for example, is informed formally and programmatically by the historic architecture of a designated landmark even as it redefines itself, (often too self-consciously, in my view), in Star-Trekian terms. Reduced to its essence, the building is the nascent universe before the Big Bang, the promise of the undifferentiated cell in its mother's womb.

The "bridge to the 21st century" was, perhaps, clinton's most delusional conceit, so it is not surprising that it would become clinton's self-referential metaphor of choice. His library was to be that bridge, if he had anything to say about it...

The architect is often the master of the inside joke, witness Robert Venturi's postmodern chairs. Venturi exploited--unabashedly and with abandon--the vocabulary of Las Vegas, its stage-set-as-reality and its roadside culture--bright, clashing, ugly and fake. The architect's inside joke is his hedge against the sycophancy that comes with patronage.

The flip side of the encoded meaning of the architect is the terrorist's decoding of it. To bin Laden, the World Trade Center was Jewish capitalism encoded in urban space. If Polshek's vision of clinton's library is a bridge, the inside joke is that, at best, it is a bridge to nowhere.

More likely, it is a bridge to the 7th century...or a doublewide to house clinton double-speak. Take your choice.

He added that it would be important for Freeh and his sources to testify about this under oath

If we're to believe Freeh, GHWB can attest to his claim as he was instrumental in getting Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah to permit the FBI to question the bombing suspects.

Will it stop GHW Bush and GW Bush from hanging out with Clinton?

Not likely as he was well aware (see above) of the snake he was befriending.

Another brilliant post Mia. Last week we drove through Little Rock and there wasn't one reference to Bubba's Bridge to Nowhere on any major road. Nor is there any to be found in the Arkansas map that we got in December 2004. You can't find it unless you happen to go past it. It is the UGLIEST structure I've ever seen, and really the joke is, it resembles nothing more than a trailer on stilts.

Keep up the good work Mia!

Great work, Mia T. I saw the bit on Hannity and Colmes with Newt Gingerich and I couldn't believe how Colmes could be so complacent and dismissive of what Clinton did.

Mia---is the house of cards (cads) unraveling?

I am incensed, in the sick way bout everyone here gets when they consider bill klinton. But to consider this smarmy coward with the zipper problem actually hinting that money for his crappy LIEbrary might keep the USA from pressuring the Saudi's to allow for terrorists to be questioned JUST MAKES ME WANT TO PUKE!

I am just getting around to reading your excellent post. I hope you follow this closly "The implication that a sitting U.S. President would actively solicit funds from a foreign head of state is too chilling for words." In reference to Clinton's request for money for his library from the Saudis. My guess is this was not the first request from Clinton inappropriately soliciting funds as well as sex - I have always felt he use the Oval Office for private gain from the start.

Good on Ya Mia, keep up the wonderful work!

I was always slightly negative about Freeh, especially since he was krinton's boy. When 911 hit us, I was (and am) infuriated that he wasn't dragged into the investigation to tell all he knew and explain why he didn't do anything. Instead, he kowtowed with the usual good bureaucratic mumblings.

Like a lot of Washington people, he has maintained a confusing profile. Is he a reliable and dedicated FBI man, or isn't he. Evidence I've read reliably indicates neither. In these days, I'm a whole lot more comfortable with somebody who is wearing a team jersey than somebody who just comes to play and doesn't care which side he's on.

For the life of me, I cannot shake the suspicion that Freeh's tell-all book is timed early enough and with just enough dirt to clear the path for later revelations down the road when the sow follows the boars path. At this time, the value of Freeh's revelations seems to be mainly that he gets ballyhooed by conservatives and we get to say we were right - truth is, nobody much seems to care but us.

The press will seal this book out of the spotlights and the left will ignore it completely. The upshot is that Mr. & Mrs. America will not hear about it and, if they do, they won't likely care because they have been inoculated with krinton fatigue from wa-a-a-ay back.

I will grant that this seems to be ammunition for targets that are susceptible, but in the larger picture it is, unfortunately, too little too late.
