The leftists are protesting again, anything new?

This is taken right off of their website: "On November 2, 2004, George Bush was elected to a second term in the White House. He claimed the election gave him a mandate to carry forward his brutal occupation of Iraq. But less than a year later, things in Iraq have gone from bad to worse, and the antiwar movement is gaining steam.

Nearly 2,000 U.S. troops and over 100,000 Iraqis have been slaughtered. Ethnic and religious tensions in Iraq have surged to the surface, and civilians fear for their lives from attacks by sectarian militias. Iraqis lack basic necessities such as food, electricity, and clean water.

The United Nations Development Program says that nearly half the children under five are malnourished. A study from the University of Baghdad estimated that the unemployment rate may be as high as 70% (The Economist, 8/20/05).

Support for Bush and the war in Iraq is lower than ever. Only 38% approve of Bush's handling of Iraq and 56% want some or all the troops brought home now (Washington Post, 8/12/05).

But just because Bush and the war are unpopular doesn't mean the pro-war politicians and their corporate backers will just give up and bring the troops home. The U.S. invaded Iraq to seize control of Iraq's oil wealth and to strengthen U.S. domination over the whole region, and Bush won't end the occupation unless a massive antiwar movement forces him to.

Now is the time to build such a movement. We can't remain passive while innocent Iraqis and U.S. troops are slaughtered for oil and empire. We can't count on corporate-controlled politicians to end this war. It's up to regular people to take action. And just like the grass-roots movement that forced Nixon to end the Vietnam War, our generation can also defeat Bush.

That's why Youth Against War and Racism is calling for a National Day of Action on November 2, the anniversary of the reelection of George Bush. We are calling on students to protest and walk out of classes against the war and military recruitment in our schools. By taking bold action, young people can help ignite a powerful, combative antiwar movement capable of forcing an end to the war."

My school's College Republican group has shown some interest, and I think that it would be a good opportunity to show these people that they need to hear some reason. We have a few people that I know of thusfar that want to attend, and I am sure Protest Warrior will show up as well. I know most of you might have jobs, I do as well, but I think it is such a great opportunity to take a half day and enjoy the usual crowd in the Common.

(Who were you before?)

I don't remember. It was back around the election and then back for a while after 9/11. If I remembered, I could ask Jim for a new password.

Oh how witty of yourself... just because I made a typo, and I am tired... yeah I appreciate it buddy. Think what you want...

Since you are new here, you might wanna spend a little time looking around before you jump to conclusions. Our humor may be a bit on the dry side sometimes, but it's there. This is not a liberal site where insults and vulgarity are hurled about like last night's Chinese takeout. Welcome to Free Republic!
