LMAO! I haven't wasted any time here. I just don't have time to satisfy your needs.

The little exercise wasn't proposed to satisfy *my* needs, but yours. I suggested it as an easy way for folks here to find out, with a minimum of effort, what is going on in the scientific community with respect to evolution. I suggested that folks look at the Salk and Scripps web-sites because (1) these organizations are at the very cutting edge of biological/medical research, and (2) their web-sites are very easy to navigate and have excellent search facilities.

Salk and Scripps have performed a tremendous amount research that has benefitted every American; their research has led to improved therapy for diabetes and cancer, for example. I thought that it would be very desirable for folks here to see how much the theory of evolution has contributed to the good work these institutions have done. (And don't forget that the founder of the Salk Insitute won the Nobel prize for developing the polio vaccine).

" This will give people a pretty good idea how well "intelligent design" stacks up against "evolution" as valid science."

That has to be one of the most disingenuous statements I've ever seen posted on FR.

First, you have touted two coniving greedy grant-grabbing, tax dollar sucking clubs that have in reality produced very little when viewed in terms of function, rather than psycho-masturbational dreaming.

Second, if they have made such advances in cancer treatment, then why have cancer deaths gone fron one in ten at the end of WW II to one in four at present? You are propagating the Big Lie.

"their research has led to improved therapy for diabetes..."

If so, then why is diabetes taking more lives, and causing more blindness, and amputations than ever before?

People are living a lot longer, you dumb****! Because fewer people are dying of heart disease, infectious diseases (such as tuberculosis), etc... more folks are reaching the very old ages where cancer becomes more prevalent.

And *age-adjusted* cancer rates for most types of cancer have *fallen* since WWII. Age-adjusted death rates for breast, prostate and colon cancer have fallen sharply in the past ten years. (But I'm probably wasting my time here -- you don't appear smart enough to figure out what "age-adjusted" means).

Because "red-state" Americans like you are too lazy to get any exercise and spent too much time stuffing themselves full of Big Macs, Whoppers, and other junk food. Don't blame scientists for the fact that you eat too much and don't get enough exercise. Scientists at Scripps and Salk have been working hard to unravel the intracacies of diabetes. (But in the case of this disease, it's a "rear-guard" action -- an attempt to "clean up" after the lifestyle-mess that Americans have made for themselves).

Kansas State immunologist Scott Todd adds, "Even if all the data point to an intelligent designer, such a hypothesis is excluded from science because it is not naturalistic" (Nature, Sept. 30, 1999, p. 423). Yet true science is the pursuit of truth, not merely the pursuit of a materialistic explanation despite evidence to the contrary.

The Appeal to Popularity has the following form: Most people approve of X (have favorable emotions towards X). Therefore X is true.

That's pretty much the only reason evolution has any support.

Both by logic and by law, arguments and discussion regarding intelligent design should be welcome in any setting, whether it be science, public schools, or both; whether it brings religious implications or not. We do NOT live in a country where such things are forbidden from discussion in any case. Neither do we live in a country where it is forbidden to argue or discuss science or other subjects in a non-theistic way.

Suppose you're an astronomer and you're studying the radio waves that fill the universe. Most of them are static, but you have your antennae focused, and all of a sudden you hear radio waves that are conveying a message—something like 'We would like pizza, too' or 'Greetings from Alpha Centauri'—then it would be dumb to ascribe those to random physical forces. You would ascribe them to intelligent space aliens.

"Facinating."

I have never heard this comparison before. The SETI astronomers have a criteria for intelligent communication, a definite, recognizable pattern that can be discerned, yet biologists refuse to acknowledge the same.

Oh, so enlightened blue state liberals don't cause harm to their bodies by lifestyle choices?

Ever hear of AIDS?

Science is a means to an end and not an end in and of itself.

It should be, but it seems that some have made a religion of it.

There is something more there to look at than just mutations creating backbones and lungs.. The individual organs do not operate independantly but as part of a complex system. Lungs or gills function to provide the body with needed oxygen. So, how would a blind system develope lungs from gills when the system is blind. More pointedly, how would freshly developed lungs, having no developed messaging system with the new nervious system know how to function and what to contribute to the whole in measures precise enough to facilitate life?

These things are in no way simple and cannot arise alone. The system is integrated meaning that all the elements must happen at once and in tune with one another or catastrophe is the result. How many diseases exist today that show that the slightest variation of a given chemical within the body either way can cause life threatening consequences. What happens when blood sugar is too high or too low in the body?
Yet, your body doesn't just decide to "retune" to fix this - it can't. That is the point of medical treatment and belies the notion of adaptation to meet circumstance.

One may say that adaptation happens over long periods of time. Indeed, then why do we still have Diabetes after "millions" of years. Such things should surely have been long ago weeded out by selection and "beneficial" mutation.
Yet the opposite is true.

Anywhere you look, when you start thinking rather than just accepting what's fed you by Darwinists, the whole system is exposed for what it is - modern day High tech Charlatanism.. and nothing more.

"People are living a lot longer, you dumb****"

That is a big part of the big lie. People are living exactly as long as they have for the last 3500 years. People have lived into their 70s since the israelites quit wandering in the sinai desert.

Cancer deaths occur mostly in middle-aged people, not the elderly. Quit your lies.
