Yesterday, was an amazing day. My Grandfather who served honorably in the South Pacific was laid to rest. Many were surprised to discover that he had lied about his age in order to enlist back when he was 17.

SO, WHEN DO YOU SEND A CHILD TO WAR?

What a loaded question. First if he's 18 or older he in't a child. Second he can't be sent. He has to volunteer.

Tom Glennon should be proud of his son. Who, from the sounds of it, is the real man in the family.

As did my father- he turned down a deferment and was allowed to enlist at 17 with his parents' consent.

I have a beautiful daughter, the only child my wife and I will ever have. She's also tall, strong, fierce, and gifted with predatory intelligence and reflexes.
She doesn't particularly want to go to war, but she says if there's a general mobilization (WWIII/draft) she'll enlist to fly attack helicopters.
If my child is a sacrifice laid on the altar of Freedom (I have tears in my eyes as I post this) then that's the price we pay. Freedom isn't free. My daughter learned that from me. And if she walks out the door on her way to fight, I'll tell her to come home with her shield, or on it.
