Mapes contends she got fired for telling the truth and now her book is getting flamed for it. So sad. :)

CBS producer Mary Mapes, along with her role in the 60 Minutes Wednesday Memogate fiasco, was covered by nearly every media outlet, from Vanity Fair to Good Morning America, not to mention getting plenty of news and blog coverage. All that exposure doesnt seem to have helped sales of her book.
Mapes Truth or Duty is already being marked down 50% to clear retailers shelves. The book has moved a mere 7,000 copies at stores measured by Nielsen Medias BookScan, which counts approximately 75% of book sales around the country.

Love to hear from Mapes. I find her bitterness so soothing.

According to http://www.answers.com/topic/mary-mapes
"Mapes reportedly received an advance payment of $250,000 against her royalties for the book."
Call me jaded, but for a quarter-mill, I might drop a line to the folks.
Does she hafta cough up the advance if the royalties don't cover $250,000? At 7000 copies, she's made like $15,000 so far.

If she gets to keep that, I'd say the publisher is going to spend some sleepless nights. They can't sell too many more if they're being discounted already.

I'd be willing to bet it's alot more than 7000 copies.

What's the break even number for the publishers? I would guess it is more than 25K.
To: Always Right
I would guess it is more than 25K.I wish I could put the Simpsons kid on here going: HA!-Ha!
I'm torn between feeling down about our society that doesn't read, and laughing at the lib publishers who continue to throw money down rat holes.

I'd rather our society didn't read if it was crap by the likes of Mary Mapes that they were reading.
