I've been sickened to see how many old FReepers have left us since the neocon/RINOs over ran the site during the 2000 election.

I thought that the Bushy neocons would go away and drink their purple kool aid elsewhere after all the congressional opportunists got their way.

It seems that a lot of mindless goofs have taken the FR stage to the frustration of the serious discussion groups.

I'll stick around none-the-less.

I too am surprised how the passion for the 2A has seemed to wane around here.

A few weeks back, I posted a (vanity) piece entitled "Legal to Vote, Legal to Carry". I expected a good discussion and maybe some plans for grassroots activism. Nope. 40 replies, and about a third are mine.

If you're interested you should get it searching by title. If not let me know and I'll ping you with it.

I'm in Iraq now, so I only get online every few days for an hour or so.

Mr. Angel Shamaya is before your court on a misdemeanor charge of having been in possession of one or more firearms not properly registered under Michigan laws.

I have known Angel for several years and want to inform the court that I know him to be a law-abiding and upstanding American citizen. I don't know whether or not he violated Michigan law, but I do know that he a good person who moved there to be near his son and who takes his family and civic responsibilities very seriously. He is a non-violent and reputable person. He is one of the good guys in our society. I hold a high level security clearance with the U.S. government and work in the area of regional infrastructure security. I would trust Angel in that environment on a moments notice because of my past knowledge and experience with him.

Please afford Mr. Shamaya the respect and courtesy you would any other beyond-reproach, well-known, upstanding member of your community. I am almost certain, that if you look at this closely, you will find that Angel was either already complying with, or seeking to comply with whatever regulations he is accused of violating and should therefore be afforded every before-mentioned courtesy and consideration
