I think articles such as these portend a disturbing trend. I can envision social unrest as the demographic bomb goes off and everyone starts looking around for who's going to pay for the aging population. Things could get very ugly in a couple of decades, methinks.

That's the consequence of a Welfare State. Nobody would have to "pay for the aging population" if the fruits of our labor weren't stolen at gunpoint by the Tax Man.

Personally I believe we all ought to be responsible for supporting OURSELVES in old age, and if we can't do that we shouldn't be having kids in the first place. I'm not counting on my kids or anyone else's to pay my way when I get old.

Er, yes.

And at that point, when the aging generation's long-term health and mental care starts to get too expensive for too few working class - who have to support their generation, the previous TWO generations (parents and grandparents still alive!), and their following generations, will take too much money, the incentive for euthanasia increases.

How quickly they forget that we've been floating the SS boat for a generation. Yes, it is going to be difficult to support us in our old age. No, I wouldn't be surprised if we get screwm.

Yep, although I think you are way off by several decades. I think we will see forced euthanasia by 2020. Clinton said more than he knew when he said 'it's the economy, stupid'. So, if money becomes the ultimate bottom line and measure of ones worth,(it will come down to ones impact on society), I can readily see some sort of eradication of th elderly when they can no longer pay their own way. When the social gimme of social security began (which was only supposed to be one thing, it was only for elderly but has been expanded to include almost everything now) there were about 14-15 workers for every retired/elderly. It is now down to about 7 or 8. By 2020 or so, it will be down to 1 or 2 workers supporting one elderly. That is not taking into account the welfare handouts(another topic altogether). You really think people who can hardly afford raising their own child or children, and see 3/4 of their income go to 'non-productives' are going to 'take it'?.. I think not. (An out of control population invites control from outside.)
