Boston, MA (LifeNews.com) -- Haleigh Poutre, the severely abused 12 year-old girl who Massachusetts officials tried to win court permission to euthanize is responding and eating solid food on her own. That's according to a nurse who has been giving information to her birth mother, to the chagrin of the Department of Social Services.
Though she remains on a feeding tube, a nurse indicated Poutre is eating scrambled eggs and cream of wheat and has been able to tap out "drum rhythms'" during physical therapy sessions, according to a Boston Globe report.
Other reports indicate Poutre has been able to use hand signals to communicate, including holding up two fingers to indicate she wanted to see her younger sister. She plays with her mother and grandmother's hair when they visit and rubs their faces.
Yeah,, Don't know how that happened.
Admin, could this go on the News/Activism forum"?
The last Terri dailies thread was pulled last night.
re: the Terri dailies... what does CP stand for?
I would think that this would qualify better as "extended news". Haleigh's story will have periodic updates in the foreseeable future. The fact that her biological mom's attorney is filing suit is a new development.
I was gone, too. We've had the flu at our house. No fun!

And they were so quick to want to euthanize her. How many cases are there like this that we don't know about?
That's part of what scares me. This attitude that people are disposable is sickening. They labelled Haleigh as PVS within 5 days of her hospitalization! PVS is a clinical diagnosis that is made over much more time. That's why it's called persistent. I know the DSS wanted to get the step-dad on murder charges, but that doesn't condone them wanting to withdraw life support from Haleigh. Did the DSS lawyers convince the doctors to give a PVS diagnosis, or are the doctors just quacks with hardened hearts? Makes you wonder who you should trust. None of them, I'd say.
Why did they pull it?..anyone know?
I don't know, but I think it sounds like posts got out of hand yesterday. We need to not let our cages get rattled when there are disruptors. They enjoy egging us on.
I still hope the organizers of recognition on behalf of Terri go for the white rose. I suggested it to them.

Excerpt from THE NAZI DOCTORS: Medical Killing and the Psychology of Genocide by Robert J. Lifton:
Perhaps the most moving of all expressions of opposition in Nazi Germany involved three medical students and a few additional students from other faculties at the University of Munich, in the dramatic White Rose resistance group. Over several months during 1942 to 1943, the group issued bold leaflets denouncing the Nazi regime and its immoral behavior (For Hitler and his followers there can be no punishment on this earth which will expiate their crimes), and calling for the German people to overthrow the regime and restore their good name. The leaflets also declared: We will not be silent. We are your bad conscience. The White Rose will give you no rest. The students were eventually discovered and condemned by a Nazi peoples court; most were beheaded. Significantly, one of the groups leading figures, Hans Scholl, had been inspired by a sermon of Bishop Clemens von Galen of Münster, condemning the euthanasia program, and is said to have responded, At last somebody has had the courage to speak out.5959. Thoughts and prayers to Dana Reeves' family. She stood by Christopher Reeves instead of lookin' for a Judge Greed to bump him off.
The potato didn't make it but I did get the smoke outta here after a few days.
Thanks for the pic. Thanks for finding it, a great idea in the first place. Those pics of the three martyrs burn into my memory too.
Logan's Run was one of them.
That's it. Logan's Run w/Farrah Fawcett making a run for it because she was getting on in years: 30 or so.
I couldn't think of a more excellent choice 8mm. Up until now they died for basically nothing. What a tribute that would be!
$72.00 for a VHS! The cheapest used one is $69.75. I wonder why it's so expensive. The reviews are all positive, and everybody seems to think it's worth the price.
"Initially, the German government refused to allow the film to be shown abroad due to an epilogue which pointedly observed that the legal judgment condemning the White Rose society had never been rescinded."
Medical people say that PVS is misdiagnosed around 43% of the time, and we can't even know for sure if that's true.
Medicine is always learning, so you would think they would realize to not be so hasty.
Poor little Haleigh was almost a victim of this rush with death.
The video got lots of supporting reviews, but I didn't notice mention of the religious backgrounds of the martyrs. Idealistic, yes, but no mention of whether they were Catholics or other Christians or Jews.
Perhaps they only sought that part that supported a more leftist view of the anti-war crowd.
Looks like the film is a good one, though. If some more ask for it, maybe the prices will drop.
That looks like a powerful film, too, but once again although mantioned, her faith is downplayed, at least by the reviewers. I do not doubt the reviewers of both films liked very much the quality film making and the attack on the Hitler "right wing extremists". and glossed over the faith in god shown by these martyrs.
J.P. Hubert Jr. MD FACS Catholic Biomedical Ethicist
Recently, multiple revisionist Catholic writers including some Catholic Theologians have opined on the significance of the Terry Schiavo case asserting that it was morally licit to remove her feeding tube, thus insuring that she would die of dehydration. This author has rebutted them in the past. Unfortunately, various writers continue to promulgate opinions which contradict constant Catholic magisterial teaching as if it were compatible with orthodox Catholic belief and practice. The latest article adds to the perfidy by incredibly; alleging that the late Holiness Pope John Paul IIs 2004 allocution on the Persistent Vegetative State was itself revisionist.

The white flag folks are still touting their ribbons in remembrance of March 31.
The White Rose beats the white flag ribbon proposed by the advanced medical directive folks. I can imagine how a white flag would have helped those martyrs as they faced the guillotine with a living will in hand.
Somewhere, I think it was a linked page, one comes across the words of Gauleiter Giesler addressing the students. He is very soothing. He tells the girls that they obviously are in school because they are not attractive enough to find a boy friend. He advises them to leave higher education to men and to stay home and make one good boy baby for Germany every year.
Girls LOVE to hear those things <g>
Whatever happened to the concept of heresy? A death-worshipper in Catholic clothing is heretical. Death is the wages of sin. It belongs to the Enemy.
Do you really think there is a chance that they could've been Jews? :)
Being the cheapskate that I am, I already thought of that! : )
Their approving review of The White Rose is to be found under the works of director Michael Verhoeven. There's nothing said about the White Rose students being Christians willing to die for their beliefs; but who'd expect mention of that in a sales blurb? Here's a publicity still. What a pretty young woman Sophie Scholl was, in life and portrayed in film.

Terri after the attack and before bioethicking.
"Their parents were not so enthusiastic. Their father, Robert Scholl, told his children that Hitler and the Nazis were leading Germany down a road of destruction. Later, in 1942, he would serve time in a Nazi prison for telling his secretary:.........."
"As Sophie and Hans went to Church one Sunday, they heard Bishop Galen speak of the emerging Euthanasia polices of the 3rd Reich. Hitler was with and without parental/familial permission, ending the lives of the mentally retarded and mentally 'infirm' pharmacologically."
"Hans and Alex were soon joined by Christoph Probst (a level-headed, married soldier and father of three who was loved by everyone who knew him) and Willi Graf (another medical student and a devout Catholic who never joined the Hitler Youth and refused to acknowledge those who did)."
"Several members had served in the German Army before resuming their studies. This provided them with information about the atrocities being committed by the Schutz Staffeinel (SS). Willi Graf had served as a medical orderly in France and Yugoslavia in 1941 whereas Hans Scholl and Alexander Schmorell had seen Jews being murdered in Poland and the Soviet Union. When Scholl and Schmorell returned to Munich in November, 1942, they joined up with Graff and began publishing leaflets about what they had seen while in the army."
What a lengthy but wonderfully written and explained article by Dr. Hubert! He expresses in so many wonderful ways that which I believe, and that I feel my Catholic upbringing has taught me. God bless Dr. Hubert!!
To all who have not read it, if this article is too long to read now, please bookmark it and read it soon. It has many good explanations and backs them up properly.
Dr. Hubert explains just what faithful Catholics are up against within their own community. There are plenty of priests and bishops who are misleading Catholics every day. They do not realize they have millstones around their necks.
Another thread posted by Coleus. The article is by Wesley J. Smith about the death of the Hippocratic Oath.
bumping #47 thread re: Wesley Smith.
Thanks for re-posting this. I would be happy to go in on the video.
