When the White House press corps first starts asking questions of new White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, the first question should be, "Sir, exactly what are you trying to hide?". There are a plethora of glib answers one could give to such a question, but the fact remains, Mr. Snow was a regular poster over at Free Republic ( http://www.freerepublic.com ), and as one can see from the link and quote below, overnight when it was announced he would be the new press secretary, the mountain of information Mr. Snow had submitted and had posted on the site disappeared. What is he hiding? What sorts of comments is he afraid might see the light of day?
This is who the White House has chosen to be a trusted deliverer of important information?
So, when the White House press corps ask Press Secretary Snow about possible cover-ups in the Valerie Plame CIA Leak-Gate affair, what expectation should they have for any sort of truthful information? But isn't this the White House whose candidate said "We're going to restore Honor and Dignity to the White House"? What sort of Honor and Dignity can one have where evasiveness and cover-ups and deleted comments are the order of the day? And what is this replacement about anyway? A Press Secretary isn't a creator or developer of policies, he simply is someone who tries to put the best face on the President's policies. The public is unhappy with the President and what he has done, so what steps does the President take? He hires someone, for whom cover-ups are the order of the day, to try and convince us that we in fact like the President's policies. What a complete insult to the people's intelligence.
Tony Snow should be withdrawn from consideration and someone the people can trust should be put in his place.

To: lexington minuteman 1775 Jim Robinson and/or the moderators removed all of Tony's posts from here sometime yesterday. My assumption is that the White House doesn't want any of his private comments easily available.

Leser's comments on that link just support my theory. Free Republic is relatively open to anybody to make any kind of comment.
Whether they discover an actual post from a true bigot or just write their own set-up post from a fake account created by professional haters like Leser, the content of some of these screeds are just an easy cut-n-paste away from a smear job on Free Republic and anybody associated with the forum.
By Election Day, immigration will emerge as one of the most overrated issues of 2006.- Tony Snow 4/7/2006

Tony Snow can drop dead. I hope they bust his chops in Washington DC. He is just another sellout. He will be working in China two years from now.
You're kidding, right?
The Iraq war is not the threat to america, Mexico's invasion is.
Here's a moderate example of the kind of statements that can be leveraged against people who frequent the forum. So now, just because I'm in the same thread with that statement, I'm vulnerable to guilt by association even though I don't agree with it.
If we don't throw Bush under the bus the USA will be lost.
But I guess the one I posted is good enough.
I could turn this blocking the information on tony snow as:
What is Tony Snow hiding?
What is FreeRepubic Hiding?
I could take any quote on FreeRepubic ever posted and use it against both FreeRepubic and Tony Snow.
If you are not doing anything wrong don't act like you are. Those in the media looking to pay FreeRepublic back for Dan Rather would love this story.
Discussions like these are really messy though and they're extremely vulnerable to abuse or use out of context.
There are so many ways that hate artists like Leser can take comments and use them against the original meaning.
The "throw Bush under the bus" comment is just rich for this kind of abuse. Did Jimbaugh mean to encourage people to assassinate Bush? Since people aren't disagreeing, does that mean those people involved in the thread feel similarly? Why isn't anybody stating that such a thing is illegal? Why isn't the moderator deleting such treasonous discussion?
Etc., etc., etc. ...
Well, I believe Jimbaugh doesn't mean assassination, but the sound bite is already in and the hate fest on CNN or somewhere else can now begin.
Maybe his account was banned because he's a "sell-out"? ;-)
Tony's been on radio/tv for years and I don't doubt that his posts here were consistant with the ideas/beliefs that he has expressed there.
The value of his posts here to the hate artists can really only be "guilt by association" type threads.
I think your posts would be accepted very well over at DUh. In fact they'd be a perfect fit.
Let's see:
IMPEACH BUSH! IMPEACH BUSH! IMPEACH BUSH! IMPEACH BUSH! IMPEACH BUSH! IMPEACH BUSH! IMPEACH BUSH! IMPEACH BUSH! IMPEACH BUSH! IMPEACH BUSH! IMPEACH BUSH! IMPEACH BUSH! IMPEACH BUSH! IMPEACH BUSH!
Yup.

Someone like, oh say Bill Clinton???
Liberals ick.
Go Tony, good luck and give'em hell!
Amen.
Does he store acorns in his cheeks?
And given the content of his "articles" he clearly is qualified to be a member of the WH press corps - but since he's obviously Helen Thomas' offspring the nepotism clause prevents him from being a part of the show.
As another poster so aptly stated, your comments above are representative of why I believe it was appropriate for the action to be taken in regard to Tony's account. Just think of what like comments contained in a thread that Tony had commented on would lead to:
"Tony Snow participated in a discussion thread on Free Republic that embraced murder."
It's not an inappropriate step that was taken.
"Mr. Snow, is it true you were banned or suspended from an Internet discussion board?"
Sorry, Freepers, most of you are bigoted racists toward people of the Islamic faith and nothing in the 110+ list of responses said anything to suggest otherwise.
You're using a mighty broad brush there, Steve. Perhaps you know a bit more about bigotry that you are letting on.
Echo: Are you sure that is his picture? In his article he says he is a grandfather.
pm...
Jim, I think it is time that we create an electronic "trap door" that flushes folks that turn EVERYTHING into an illegal immigration issue.</half-sarcasm>
