I cannot, as yet, speak to the authenticity or quality of this article and the book to which it refers.

However, if there is any substance to this claim that the koran should be interpreted from the Aramaic instead of Arabic...and if the interpretations provided by this author are indeed true, it should make for a very interesting discussion among muslims.

Sounds like a muzzie version of a Da Vinci Code plot.

I don't think you're going to convince the Fundamentalists of this.

I'd be very careful with accepting this too, but if so it's interesting. Heck, we have the same problem just between King James' formal english and modern english.

Awful, terrible, awesome, wondrous...

Let, allowed, permitted, commanded...

I wonder if Ian McKellen thinks it should be labeled as fiction?

The biggest irony of all is that the people in this world who are the most familiar with the Aramaic language are Jewish religious scholars - due to the fact that large parts of the Talmud are written in Aramaic.

It'd be interesting to see a Translation of the Koran into Aramaic, with the Arabic meaning on the facing page, and commentary of what the differences are. Of course, anyone putting out that book would automatically be targetted for death by the "Religion of Peace," but it would be interesting nonetheless.

"Aramaic is not only the dominant language of the Qur’an; it is the language of the Qur’an, without which the Qur’an can never be understood. Every single verse of Qur’an is written in the Aramaic language. "

Gosh. Every and Muslim scholar and average joe thought they were reading something in Arabic and were wrong?

The good news is they can now realize they are bilingual!

The bad news is there will be no more Mel Gibson movies in Aramaic to get bit parts in.

And in the fundamentalist Muslim world, there is a blue light special on fatwas against one, Gabriel Sawma.

That’s a big if.

I have seen a similar thing with English translations of Scripture. In fact I can think of three instances in the New Testament where the understanding of a passage can be can be altered and or significantly improved by an understanding of the Greek.

I wonder what differences would be revealed with a direct translation of the Bible from Aramaic?

Muslim commentators state that there are virgin women in heaven with sexy eyes waiting for men who engage in Jihad. The Aramaic language of the Qur’an does not imply that at all. The Qur’anic verse says: “there is water and white raisins”.

Water and white raisins ?

WOW !!

I have to say I am sceptical about the muslim world's possible response to this.
