Making society better - thanks to Da Vinci Code
Spero News ^ | Friday, May 26, 2006 | Robert Duncan

I've been thinking a lot lately, perhaps it's no surprise, on the public face of Opus Dei, much of it no doubt the result of The Da Vinci Code. The more I think about it, the more I am inclined to say that The Da Vinci Code is a blessing in disguise not only for Opus Dei, but also for Christians worldwide – and in the end, for society.

There is no doubt that the movie is a blasphemous caricature of Christianity, but the result of the film (and book) is that it is causing people to question and delve more into their faith. Sure, there are those who would prefer to believe in falsehoods and unfounded conspiracies - but there have always been people like that in every age.

What is perhaps different now from times past is that there appears to be worldwide movement of looking at the spiritual realm -- from the delving in the occult, to trendy New Age movements, to even a global fascination with the death of Pope John Paul II. All these factors, and others, witness to mankind in general experiencing a spiritual upheaval in search of something better. A recognition that the temporal is just that - fleeting.

And that is where The Da Vinci Code can actually be a positive instrument to teach people what Christians really believe - and even be a unifying factor among Christians.

And the moon is made of green cheese. How could a lying piece of garbage like the Da Vinci Code lead anyone to the truth of Jesus Christ? I know God makes straight with crooked paths, but there is nothing to commend Dan Brown's fictional fantasy. Nothing good comes from putting garbage in your mind.

Have read the book or seen the movie? If not read the 'Song of Psalms' in the old testament. This might give you some insight into why some believe the story.

Here is a unifying thought. Does anyone know of anyone in history that ever lived through being crucified? If Jesus lived through it, then he was just a guy, right? So he didn't have any help from God, because all claims of his being a savior would have to be false. There is nothing anywhere that casts doubt that Jesus was actually crucified. And the best that someone can come up with is that he lived through spikes driven through his wrists and ankles, lived through the beating, stabbing, and hanging there, and felt good enough afterwards to make passionate love to Mary Magdelene? And we are getting upset because we are afraid someone will believe this claim? The people who believe this want the story of Jesus to be false, and there is nothing we do can change them. That being said, it is a pretty cool book if you have common sense and just see it as fiction.

Afterwards? Who said anything about afterwards?

That makes about as much sense as saying World War II was good, because it helped spur defense-industry innovation.

What's wrong? Don't have a Bible or don't want to read it?

I have several bibles and they are all well-worn. I don't want to get into an endless nonsense discussion about those who are so stupid as to believe the Da Vinci Code has any truth in it.

This is an attack on all religions. If the "intellectuals" can bring down Christianity with this sort of thing (rewriting history) they can surely do it with all the others.

Remember...Via la no religion is a religion in itself.

I suppose this is a time to interject the line, these are times that will try men's souls.

Christ had to face many Dan Browns while here on earth, this is nothing new.

There are those who if they saw Christ coming in the eastern sky would be in denial of him.

As a believer, we will all face him at sometime, don't like sometime, with the Lord there is no such thing as time. At some point we will face him along with all the Dan Browns.

Putting garbbage in your mind. True, and the thing that I can't understand is people must think Da Venci and Joseph Smith were the only people to interpret the Bible.

John the Davine was the youngest of the disciples, Da Venci prorated him so in the painting of the Last Supper. John being younger then the other disciples was without a beard, as a young man would have looked at the time.

I do not believe Da Venci saw in the painting a your Mary at the right side of our Lord and, Dan Brown can not prove this with any fact.
