Indeed. Its my belief that when America declines, her burdern will be picked up [as the US picked up the UK's] - by India another "child" of the Empire.

If so, it won't be the white man's burden, anymore. I think troop redeployment etc is an effort to get more people to carry smaller loads as in the NATO force in Afghanistan. Note that some people who were trying to get away with just doing peacekeeping are now fighting. They are getting more realistic, imho. Europe is well manicured and bored while US is getting a little tired and frayed around the edges with the policeman of the world duty.
