MD Requires Bird Registrations

The government is extending NAIS and similar regulations to household pets. Pets are already included in the form of horses, pot bellied pigs, llamas, fish and pet livestock. Some states are expanding the definition beyond the USDA's original list to include dogs, cats and caged pet birds.

NY Bill A09775 applies to cats & dogs.

PA SB865 applies to any domestic animals.

MD HB709) applies to any domestic birds. Read more in this article.

RI seeks to spay and neuter all cats.

Los Angeles seeks to spay and neuter all dogs.

You can bet good money that within a few years all animals will be included. Soon they will know what you have and where you have it. Every animal will be numbered and accounted for. How long until the government starts telling us we may or may not have certain animals? Oh, wait, they're already trying to do that with breed restriction laws in many areas...

I can see the requirement for dogs, horses, and livestock. but otherwise it's just an exercise in revenue enhancement.

Huh? What are you saying about "Dogs, horses and livestock"? That they should be neutered/spayed? That would be unstainable. We need breeding stock. We also don't need the government micromanaging our lives.

>>Soon they will know what you have and where you have it.<<

Well, yeah, if you register your animals, someone will know.

Or you could do what I do, which is have a vet who lets you self-report. He gives me the rabies vaccine form and tells me to send it in. It's not his fault if I don't. (And I don't.)

"Libertarian"

No, conservative. I want to conserve our traditional rights to farm and own livestock. Gads, people accuse me of all sorts of politics. The liberals think I'm conservative and the conservertives are calling me libertarian... :)

I get the same thing, although the libertarian ping was for freepatriot32, musta left your name in the box. (although I do agree with a few libertarian ideas, but not with what the national LP stands for.)

Registered? Why not a 7-day waiting period and trigger locks while they're at it? What about making sure children don't play with turkey-like toys? What about an appropriate law banning felons from keeping or bearing game hens? I have yet to see someone appropriately charged for assault with a deadly rooster, either!

They can have my rubber chicken--when they pry it from my cold, dead hands...
