"I'm being told I've completed 0 out of 500000 steps.  Looks like I have a ways to go?"

LOL

Wait 'till you get one that has 20,000,000 steps, heheh.

Series, some WUs crunch in a few hours and some take a few days (or weeks, if you have a clunker like one of mine, haha).

Hmmm, I said to run as a service, but it didn't start auto-magically on reboot... I'm running the 5.04 console version.

I started it manually, and it seems to be working, but isn't it supposed to auto start on reboot?

"I started it manually, and it seems to be working, but isn't it supposed to auto start on reboot?"

Yes, it does, but you can't tell it's running as it doesn't have it's own window when run as a service.

Since you started it manually, you probably have two instances of it running, one in the background and one in a Dos command window.   Check for that by using task manager - right click on a blank spot on your Windows tool bar (it has the Start button on it at one end and the clock at the other), then on the pop-up menu, left click on task manager.  A new window opens with tabs at the top.  Left click on the second tab 'Processes' and scroll through the list and locate FAHconsole_504.  If there are 2, then you should just shutdown & restart. The one in the Dos window won't start up again.  Check the task manager again to make sure only one console is running.  You'll also see a FAHcore running, which is the part that actually does the crunching, so let it run.

If you'll download Egon's FAH monitor, you can keep track of your system (and any others you are running).  Check up-thread for the link to download it. (Search the page for Egon's name).

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help... I was running two instances.

I've downloaded and run the FAHmon program, but no info pops up. Do I have to configure it somehow?

You guys crack me up.  I'd buy you both a beer, except one of you is on the East Coast and the other one is on the West Coast, with me right in the middle.  (Hey, wasn't that a line in a Clint Eastwood movie - 'You mean the Rojas on one side and the' ? 'on the other, with me right in the middle?', heheh.  What was the name of that movie and the name of the other rival family?)

But, if you'll both agree to meet me halfway (that'd be here in Texas, of course), then I'll buy you those beers.  Be warned, though, you might have to put up with some chocolate and Dom Perignon.

;-)

"Do I have to configure it somehow?"

Yes.  Check it's help page.  Basically, you edit the script file 'fahmonitor.asp' with notepad (it's a text file).  You enter your screen-name, team number, location of the FAH folder, etc.  Then you use Windows scheduler to run it every 30 minutes so it will update the stats for you.

Go back to the page where you downloaded the program and scroll down.  The instructions are there.  If you have any problems, just ask anyone of us.  Most can and will help.

;-)

"I'll check it in a few."

Give it at least an hour.  It takes a while to crunch some and calculate a reasonable ETA.

Thanks RebelTex... I think the FAHmon is working, but it's still at 0% progress on the WU. Will take your advise to check in an hour.

I don't see anything on the FAHmon page that says to edit any files though... I set team 36120 on the console client on setup, so I hope it's crunching for FR!

Thanks for all the help.

OK, when you check the page that shows 0%, is that a web page, or the FAHlog.txt file on your system?

If it's the FAHmonitor web page, then there is a link near the top to go to the help page. Click that and you should find all the instructions on editing the script.

If you're getting the log text file, then use your browser to go back to the download page. The download page IS the help page and it has a link to the Monitor web page which gives you your stats. After you follow that link, right click on it and choose 'Create shortcut' to put a shortcut on your desktop.

Nothing about editing a file there...

My FAHmon message box shows this:

[03/08/06 - 20:49:49] Desktop [ETA] | avg=N/A | last=N/A

(Desktop) is the name for the computer I'm trying to geet this running on.

No wonder you're confused.  We've been talking about 2 entirely different programs.  You have FAHmonitor.exe and I've been talking about Egon's Fah monitor.  Egon is a FReeper on this thread & he wrote a private program just for us FReepers.

Fortunately, I also have the program you installed.   In the top half of the FAHmonitor window, you should see a list of all your computers that you have configured.  Right now, it probably only has the one named 'Desktop'.   Right click on the name 'Desktop' and click on 'Edit this Client'.  Check the path in the 'Location' field.  It should be pointed at wherever you installed FAH on your hard drive.  Most of us use: C:\fold\    If you set the path to the work directory or some other directory, then you need to change it to the main directory containing the FAH main program.

If you want to try out Egon's monitor, check your FReepmail.  I'm sending you a link to his download page.  We don't post it in the forum so we can keep it just for FReepers.

Let me know how this works out for you.

Just had another thougt.

You may have set the location of your FAH client to the directory that you used when you started it manually, or from a secondary install. Did'nt you download the FAH program twice (GUI & Console versions)?

If so, you may have installed each version in a different directory. Get rid of the GUI version and make sure the monitor is pointing to the Console version. (You might need to uninstall both, delete the directories and Work directories and start over.)

I've been folding using Bionic and not affiliated with any team. I just uninstalled it and installed @home and signed on to the FR team.

Wish I'd know about the FR team a while ago.

Welcome aboard.

Glad to have you with us. There's usually a new thread every week and newcomers usually get placed on the ping list.

It's been a lot of fun. Especially needling the DUmmies. (They have their own folding team and thought they could overtake us in short order. HAHAHA - NEVER gonna happen, LOL.

Look for your stats on the team page and see if you can move up the ranks. Good Luck.
