And the muslim reaction to his comments indicates to the entire world just how integral violence is to islam. He is certainly sorry that is the truth, who isn't. But frankly, the muslim world has provided proof for his point, not repudiated or refuted it.

Agreed, Dark Skies. This is the only item I could find on the Vatican site (partially designed by the Fathers of Christ in the Desert Monastery in Abiquiu, New Mexico, btw...) that could even vaguely be considered an 'apology'. But their are quote in the article you posted, and others I've seen on FR, that suggest that other comments (by the Pope) were made as well.
