I agree with your point (in fact I detest the yellow ribbon nonsense), but if we are going to have a memorial, it should honor our country. Please return to my blog and read my Friday post.

Yellow ribbons make it too easy for people to avoid deeper meanings. Same with memorials intended to make the present generation feel better. Our generation knows these things first-hand. A true memorial is for generations beyond ours.

It is interesting--the memorials in Lexington, MA and Concord, MA for the Revolutionary War. These were only erected 100 years later. And these Massachusetts memorials are the very earliest in the Republic--100 years after Independence.
