SARAJEVO,Bosnia - Bosnian authorities are investigating rape allegations against retired Canadian General Lewis MacKenzie, who commanded UN peacekeepers in Bosnia at the start of the 1992-95 war, an official said.
"We have the testimonies of women that he visited the detention camp several times and was not only witnessing, but also participating, in rapes there," Sarajevo county prosecutor Oleg Cavka told AFP.
He was referring to the detention camp called "Sonja" in the Sarajevo suburb of Vogosca where crimianl Serbian forces forcibly imprisoned Bosniak women, and forced them to be their sex slaves.
Cavka refused to disclose the number of MacKenzie's alleged victims, but added police had been collecting evidence since 1998 against MacKenzie, who commanded the UN peacekeepers until August 1992.
"He has not been indicted since under the law no one can be indicted before he has been questioned," Cavka said.
Bosnian authorities have asked Canada for permission to interview MacKenzie on several occasions, but have received no reply, he added.
MacKenzie was replaced in Bosnia after he criticized the UN's role there.
Alegations against general MacKenzie by Muslims started when he slamed UN in Bosnia claimed that Muslims have staged most of TV killing of Muslims by themselves, like Markale incident, and with as he said wast support by UN and CNN that gave support to Muslims.
Major attack on general MacKenzie started when he dissmissed claims about genocide over Muslims and when he disputed numbers of killed Muslims at Srebrenica, claimed that number is inflated and much, lower than Muslims said.
He was sacked when started critisizing UN role in Bosnia, saying that UN was practicaly on Muslims side.
most reacentley he accused UN for sheltering Hizbollah in Lebenon thus provoking israelis to momb UN building. He gave support to Israeli actions in Lebanon.
This is political crap, intended to discredit him because he told the world what was really going on over there.
I've heard these allegations whispered before and he wasn't even in Bosnia when they were supposed to have occured. It's just the Muslims attempting to "play victim" again.
General MacKenzie was one of the good guys in this Cluster F*CK!
Kronos has been very patient with me in explaining who's who in Bosnia .. and I am just an old fart .. can't get 'em straight ... so I rely on folks like yourself to comment wisely.
My first suspicion was it is just another "we'll get you" from the Islamists.

Here is one of the reasons the Muslims are after MacKenzie: We Bombed the Wrong Side? Along with the fact that Mackenzie blew the whistle on Hezbollah using the UN in Lebanon as a shield to fire on Israel.
They are trying to use the same propaganda against MacKenzie as they used against the Serbs, but this time it isn't working!
MacKenzie is one of the good guys. The Bosnian Islamists are just up to more of their false propaganda!
