Hunter does a lot of things right. But he can’t run a presidential campaign worth squat, and his FR supporters have resorted in desperation to tearing down the other conservative in the race—the one who CAN win—Fred Thompson.

I do not know about others, but my issue with Hunter has nothing to do with any perceived possibility that he may win the nomination. I want to see "big government conservatism" die the death it so richly deserves. For me it is all about redefining conservatism in the Goldwater/Reagan mold. Looking to someone as a standard bearer for conservatism, who is a big spender, keeps us in the hole we created for ourselves. If Hunter was truly a consistent limited government conservative, his being put forward as someone conservatives should rally behind would not bother me. If it was Tancredo, rather than Hunter, who was vying with Fred for support here on FR, I would not criticize his record.
