December 15, 2007 Princeton, NJ After receiving multiple death threats, a Princeton student was beat unconscious last Friday in what appears to be a politically-motivated assault. The attack came after emails saying, "WE WILL KILL YOU," were sent to the officers of a student group that promotes traditional views of marriage and sexual ethics.
Francisco Nava '09, suffered serious abrasions, bleeding, and a light concussion after being beat until he lost consciousness this Friday. The attack, which occured within blocks of Princeton's campus, appears to be connected to multiple death threats received by Nava and other officers in the Anscombe Society, a student group that advances traditional ideas of marriage and family. Nava was assaulted on Witherspoon Street near the Princeton campus while walking to the home of a local youth he mentors through a student volunteer organization. The attackers did not take any of Nava's belongings.
The assailant, identified as a white, college-aged male, stopped Nava and asked him if he would "help someone who's been hurt." The assailant then pulled Nava into a dark area where another male joined in holding Nava's jaw shut. The two assailants thrust Nava's face against a brick wall causing abrasions, according to an email sent to administrators. Nava was then punched until he lost consciousness. When he awoke the assailants were beating him with a glass bottle. Nava's two attackers said, "We told you to shut the f* up," apparently echoing words that had appeared in messages received by Nava and four others affiliated with the conservative Anscombe Society. After the assault, Nava was taken to Princeton Medical Center for treatment. He was released late Friday evening.
The attacks came two days after Nava and five others, including prominent politics professor and conservative scholar Robert George and Rhodes Scholar and Tory Editor-in-Chief Sherif Girgis, were sent email death threats. One message said, "SHUT THE F* UP WE WILL DESTROY ALL OF YOU WE ARE WATCHING YOU YOU DONT BELONG HERE WE WILL KILL YOU."
The emails were traced to computers at Princeton's Firestone Library that do not require a log-in or password. Campus dormitories can be accessed using the same ID card required to enter the library. All students receiving threats spent the night off-campus at either a hotel or a house in the local area.
The assault, which occurred around 6:00 Friday night, is being investigated by the Department of Public Safety and the Princeton Township Police. No suspects have been developed.
Nava received his first threat after joining the Anscombe Society, a group that promotes traditional sexual ethics. The groups website states that marriage is "the exclusive, monogamous union of a man and woman." Nava received additional threats after criticizing Princeton's policy of condom distribution in the Daily Princetonian.
The attack also comes only a day after a columnist for the Daily Princetonian criticized Princeton's administration for signaling that there was an "Open Season" on conservative students. "By permitting a double standard to exist, the University has inadvertently, I am sure signaled to those who would use intimidation tactics to silence the voices of morally conservative students that their misconduct will not be investigated, much less punished or even denounced," said the article written by Brandon McGinley, also a Tory staffer.
Members of Princeton's student government have partnered with conservative students for an event that has been tentatively scheduled for Saturday at 4:00pm in Murray Dodge Hall. The event will afford Princeton students a chance to express solidarity with those who have received threats.
And if Hillary wins the election then there will be blue shirts instead.
I do understand what you're saying though. They behave like rabid dogs, and I shudder to think of them ever coming to power, and having control over the police apparatus of our country.
Ping.
I say the guy should get his entire group together and go give them back a taste of their own medicine.
Aside from giving the obvious group a "hate crime" to tout, that would be contraindicated on a basis of not wanting to suffer any serological exchange. Blood bourne pathogens are likely to be pretty nasty with the group most likely to have perpetrated this.
I'd definitely start carrying a weapon of some sort and make sure I could (and would!) use it at the first sign of trouble.
A student at Princeton University who said he was beaten unconscious by two black-clad assailants Friday has said that he fabricated the assault, and that he sent e-mail death threats to himself, three other Princeton students, and a prominent conservative professor at Princeton, Robert George, police said today.
Oh wait never mind looks like gays and straights can get along after all...
My bad man. Turns out even my eyes can get clouded.
>>A disturbing story and headline.<,
It is.
And it combines all the parts to make it a perfect story.
But even if absolutely true it does not prove trend any more than one attack on a homosexual specifically for him being gay would prove a trend.
“Ive talked to atheist seminary students. When Ive questioned them about
their motives they dont have any good reason but I suspect its about
gaining access and destruction of Christianity from within.”
That would be the sensible thing for them to do.
Why else would you spend time, mental effort and money getting an
education in transcendental belief systems.
When, as atheists, you believe in pure materialism and disbelieve
in the existence of an afterlife.
I wouldn’t be suprised if they were inspired by that commentary piece
that radio-star Paul Harvey used to read periodically: “If I Were The Devil”
with all the steps Satan would take to make sure the world remains a
place where life is “short, brutal and ugly” (or whatever that famous
phrase is).
Perhaps the mods can amend the title.
