Bottom line is the bottom line. He almost certainly did not have the money for a last minute buy so he tried to get it on the evening news instead. Hell, if I was a media outlet and someone wanted to air a last second ad, I would jack the price up a factor of 10 because it will cost me more to do a last second reshuffle of scheduling.

Huckabee is out of money and out of skills. He has been out organized and out scheduled. Any experienced campaign staff media person would know that having an ad aired during a news broadcast means the ad won’t air in its entirety, it will be snidely and sarcastically attacked by the anchor person, and it will become the object of ridicule rather than background subliminals.

Not ready for prime time.

This might prove to be the Huckster’s biggest mistake , if true, as he just handed Romney a free pass through Iowa .

When the press gets done airing the bootlegs of the ad and telling the story, it can also mean the 3 points Fred needs to move up to second place...

I see we have another MittWitt N00b.

If you think this is a story wait till you hear about how Mitt and his dad both marched with Martin Luther King!

You’ll be posting that in BOLD caps, right?

Let me get this straight - does anyone really think that by NOT running these ads on TV he somehow will benefit more? Rollins wanted to run these ads and pressured Mike to run them, but the candidate himself took it down.

Umm, let's see... He doesn't have to pay for the broadcast of the ads, by making a major presser out of not showing the ads (and showing the ads to the press), these ads will then be regurgitated by the press on air, still getting out their content, but at no cost to the campaign. The Huckster can further claim to having taken the high road in not getting down into the mud, while at the same time making sure the opposition research gets out in front of the voters.

They call that a win-win. Let's see if a variation of the ads run in New Hampshire.

Hillary will be our next President before Romney will. That is coming from a very conservative person who cannot stomach the idea that Hillary will be President. I will never however vote for Romney>

No that can’t happen.

You see according to some Mittwitts here at FR, he had gastric bypass surgery, and has kept it a secret.

I have to say how I love Jane Austen.
Yes, thank goodness Tancredo helped get this issue up to the top of the list and I was pleased that he endorsed Mitt.

If you pay for a 30 second spot that what you get.The talent would not refer to the ad.If you want to air a last second ad if they have an open spot they will throw it in.Many times they rerun ads because the spots are not sold.If all the spots are sold then you can’t get it on.If he paid for the spots then he is running a different ad or out the money.

Rollins didn’t have a better offer because he is 30 years out of date with current demographics and technology. But one thing he does understand is that money wins and you must go negative when you are behind.

This maneuver to get the ad on TV news rather than as a bought ad spot is not some new strategy. It has been understood for decades — and discarded because you lose control when you do it. The TV news people will NOT air all of it, just snippet, and they will editorialize it and ridicule it as they do so. That eliminates its power. It gets at best diluted and at worst reversed.

This is desperation. Huckabee’s internals must show Romney with a substantial lead.

This is not a race with 2nd and 3rd place. This is all the marbles for Huckabee and the 2nd tier. McCain and Guilliani have pros and they are pointing at Florida and Super Tuesday. Their pros understand that this is not 2000. Michigan has erased South Carolina — and Guilliani is going to try to win strictly with NY, FL and California.

Only Romney’s team understands this and has a strategy to stop it.

Why is he running ads in Iowa and NH then, if he cannot afford to run any ads? he just raised more than $5 million in the 4th quarter on line, and had a good fund raising 4th quarter too.

As for his organization, don’t count it out. He has Ed Rollins, who is famous in 1984 (Reagan) and 1992 (Perot) for making candidates appear to be one of the people. My prediction is that Huckabee will get 1st or 2nd in IA, then will win SC. After that, it’s a crap shoot.

Who knows, but I don’t see Rollins allowing this kind of mistake .
Rollins is usually a hard hitter and I can’t see him taking the “ nice “ road . Maybe Huckster overruled Rollins on this ?

Nice doesn’t win elections ...
