No offense to Lech Walesa, but online petitions hold as much sway as a guy on a street corner yelling. I’ve been on the receiving end (volunteering with a congressman) and I can tell you, most of these go right in the trash or recycle bin. (fyi, I do agree with the statement, just not the medium)

You’re right...though Natan Sharansky and other dissidents (who were political prisoners) have said how important it was for them to know that the world remembered them. That’s why the more signatures gathered, the greater the impact on morale.
