Maybe in Galveston there is a parade, but no one here that I know celebrates it! Sorry it has all the significance of Kawanza. But I say make it a Holiday. Call it "In Lew Of Slavery Reperations Day." Give all blacks the day off and tell them that since over the years the holiday will be enacted, it will have cost employers tons of money that would have been otherwise wasted in the hands of people who had nothing to do with slavery.
In 1997, during the 105th congress, it was former Senate Majority Leader, Trent Lott (R-MS) and former Congressman J.C. Watts (R-OK) that sponsored and passed legislation with both houses in congress unanimously recognizing Juneteenth Independence Day in America. Similar legislation continues to be unanimously passed every year in congress.
Juneteenth is America's 2nd Independence Day celebration. 29 states recognize Juneteenth as a state holiday or state holiday observance, as well as the congress of the United States.
Together we will see Juneteenth become a national holiday in America!

We are not asking for a paid federal holiday but a National Holiay Observance to recognize Juneteenth. There will be no coast to tax-payers. So, your comment concerning Congresswoman Maxine Waters has no merit.

And Maine. Maine was part of Massachsetts then (a colony of a colony), so all the bureaucratic deadbeats in Maine get a day off too.
It has always astounded me that the Democrats turned the tables on the Republicans on this issue and somehow became the party that most AhyphenAs associate with equality when the exact opposite is true.

What really cracked me up was the thought that we’d change our minds about this because a couple of members of the Stupid Party got behind this idea. Trent Lott, now that’s a name that carries a lot of weight around here! JC is more respected, but that doesn’t mean we always agree.

Holy crap!!!!!!!!!! What is this guys deal??? Does the thought of another civil war excite him because this would be more along the lines of a countrywide riot!! Are we not all tired of this drawn out pitty party about slavery. There is no more slaves in the U.S. so who cares anymore. And in my opinion it should be forgoten because it is only a topic of hate. This is the whole reason why blacks and whites cant get along.
The simple facts are, deep down, the majority of blacks still hate the whites and do not trust them. It seems as though no matter what you do, the majority wants to keep the slavery thing alive to piss and moan about all the reasons they dont get a fair shot while the truth is..... Whites are the minority and get way less free handouts than any other race, Blacks, Hispanics,Indian all have several programs to help because they are “deprived” as many claimed.
When have you heard of a White college fund or a white people head start program. Hell, the more deprived you are now a days the better it will be in the future. The “white”race is the one who is becoming deprived. But hey, I love to hear about slavery. Thats just what we need, a holiday focused on slavery. That will lift everyones spirits. I mean with ths country on the verge of a econimc depression and reposesions, forclosures and unemployment at a all time high. That is what we really need. A GIANT HATE WHITEY PARTY! ! ! ! THAT WILL REALLY TURN THIS COUNTRY AROUND.

The only hate I see is that coming from those who falsely label Juneteenth as a hate whitey event instead of a freedom celebration.
