I saw the ceremony on CNN and I surprised myself by crying through the whole thing. I even choked up later when telling my husband about it. What an outstanding person and soldier this young man was, the definition of a true hero.

I was quite moved myself. I live about 10 miles from Spc. McGinnis’ hometown of Knox. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting the young man or his family, the local papers have had some very nice articles on him since he was killed. Sometimes I get so pessimistic about the state of our country, but people like Ross McGinnis make me believe that we might just make it after all. May God rest this good man's soul and comfort his family.
