Climate Change Delusion

We've been saying for some time that climate change alarmists are deluded, but now science backs us up -- well, sort of.

Writing in the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry, Joshua Wolf and Robert Salo identify a new psychiatric disorder they call Climate Change Delusion. The Herald Sun (Melbourne, Australia) quotes from their report:

"A 17-year-old man was referred to the inpatient psychiatric unit at Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne with an eight-month history of depressed mood . . . He also . . . had visions of apocalyptic events." ... "The patient had also developed the belief that, due to climate change, his own water consumption could lead within days to the deaths of millions of people through exhaustion of water supplies."
This man's delusion is pretty extreme -- he could not possibly have consumed enough water to have deprived millions of people of the hydration they needed -- but it seems grounded in the key underlying tenet of environmentalism, which is that people are bad for the planet. It's environmentalism on LSD. It's like he read Al Gore's propaganda rant, Earth in the Balance, which itself already read like the Unabomber manifesto, and then dropped acid.

I remember seeing a similar delusion in the 1980s back in the days when so many of us were forced to watch the horror propaganda film If You Love This Planet, which starred anti-American misanthrope Helen Caldicott. Thousands of people were convinced that nuclear holocaust was just around the corner. They were convinced that Ronald Reagan was the Devil incarnate. One young woman I met at a nuclear disarmament conference that my high school sent me to told my discussion group that every time she heard an airplane fly overhead she feared that was the end. Never mind that a nuclear device isn't likely to be dropped from a plane (nor was it in the 1980s), this frightened woman said she feared that vaporization was mere minutes away. Somehow, suffering from this abject fear led her to believe that all nuclear weapons should be banned and that, despite the Soviet threat, NATO should have scrapped its nuclear arsenal unilaterally.

Maybe her condition should have been diagnosed too.

The main thing is no one cares, the elitist communist will change the western civilization back to the middle ages or the islamists will,of course,us warmongers may fight them off,but what a stigma we would have attached to us,,trying to destroy the world! yikes we couldn’t handle that, best to give up on religion, free thought, cars, etc, and just mope around in our grey garb and thank our masters

This isn’t new. James Hansen and Al Gore have suffered from it for decades.
