OK, sorry. I hadn’t noticed your age.

OK, sorry. I hadnt noticed your age. What has that got to do with good manners?

Good manners are good manners, regardless of age. You should try it sometime.
Like, when someone asks you "...please go away and quit bothering me," it is good manners to do so.

Because I was taught when I was a little kid that it is polite to do so. And, you know what? I have never found it at all burdensome to do so. Hey, TG. Remember this post? You started this colloquy. You can end it, too, just by not responding.

Hey, TG. Remember this post? You started this colloquy.
Yes, I remember it. And I also remember that for giving that thruthful answer, you came on with this little gem of snottiness: So, your thank you is insincere, since you are only being polite.
You can end it, too, just by not responding.
And so could you have, by showing some damned manners, and knocking off your crap when asked twice to do so.
So, will try once more -- Please leave me alone.

No, I’m thanking you. It helped me shake off some of the rust on my German.
Nein, ich bedanke mich! Sie waren sehr behilflich.

I have to go with the Rush response on this one: Words mean things - and the Marshall MacCluhan maxim that The medium is the message and the message is the medium.
Right you are. And, I'd be very startled if anyone here who's claiming that 'you're welcome' is the proper response could give any analysis of what the words actually mean, and why they are the proper response.

Go to Chick-Fil-A. When you say 'thank you' they respond with 'my pleasure'. "My pleasure" is just as easy to say as "no problem" and ever so much more gracious and (dare I say?) loving.
