Remember the FR polls. McCain came up dead last in pretty much all of them till he was the only man left standing. A lot of people who despise McCain are voting for him simply because he’s all they have, not because they support illegal immigration.

As to that leftist immigration meme about 'anti-illegal republicans losing' was proved as a bunch of baloney within days. (I had the stats bookmarked until XP SP3 ate my hard drive. (I have an AMD processor and motherboard))
