I saw this ad on Fox last night. Having been raised Catholic and having attended Catholic school (including college), this just confirms for me that the Benedictine Sisters and the Sisters of Mercy (amongst other groups) are the biggest bunch of hypocrites I've ever encountered. They scream and demonstrate when convicted killers are being put to death, but when asked why they support a political party that supports killing the unborn innocent, their silence is deafening. I realize that this is a 527, but this is a disgrace to the church.

Huh, no condemnation of the death penalty? The nuns must be slipping, or sipping.

I haven’t seen it, but it sounds like that ad from a couple of months ago where the lady says you(McCain) can’t have her baby for a 100yr war in Iraq.

Same here. They are saying that Obama, a proponent of all abortions and infanticide for any who survive a botched abortion, is a better choice than McCain. On the war issue, Obama has supported most of the funding bills for the war, doesn’t this make him complicit? I had the Sisters of no Mercy, they should stick to teaching.

"a pro-life Catholic group"

Isn't that redundant?

If this ad isn’t running against Obama also, the Sisters’ credibility is blown away.

I agree that this is a disgrace to the church. I am wondering, can the church lose its tax exempt status by being involved in politics at this level?

I think FReepers might want to spend a little time reading the “Catholics United” website.

Among those positions they uphold:

Catholics United Study Finds that Overturning Roe v. Wade Will Have Minimal Effect on U.S. Abortion Rate

Knights of Columbus Ad Campaign Distracts Catholics from the Real Issues of this Election

Catholics United Statement on Barack Obama’s Selection of Senator Joe Biden as Running Mate (supports Biden)

A Million Doors for Peace (”end the war in Iraq”)

Jesus Christ was a community organizer, pontius pilot was a governor, blah blah blah.

If McCain opposes the bailout, it will blow the race wide open. He can tack hard right against Democratic socialism. Obama will be stuck defending the liberals in congress.

The ads will also run in Pennsylvania and Michigan.

An admission by the Obama camp (and let's make no mistake about who is pulling the strings here) that the Obamessiah's numbers among Catholics have not improved since his selection of Skippy Biden, and an admission that this weakness is indeed hurting The One's chances at winning PA and/or MI.

How would this woman have dealt with the rape, tortures, and murders by Saddam Hussein and his sons?

The Left told us that the sanctions were killing Iraqi children.

Saddam had repeatedly violated the peace agreements of the 1991 Gulf War. It was Saddam who kept the war alive by breaking the peace.

Will this SAME 527 be taking Obama to task for opposing the Born Alive act? Obama opposed ending the practice of placing small infants on a utility closet shelf to die.

June 03, 2008 -Catholic Priest Michael Pfleger was removed from his position temporarily by the supervising Cardinal Francis George today. Pfleger attempted to incite hatred for whites, and called Hillary Clinton a white racist, when he spoke at Barack Obama’s now former church. Pfleger’s suspension will last several weeks. After the suspension Pfleger apologized for his remarks. In the picture above and below is Nation of Islam leader, and racist Louis Farrakhan, who embraces father Michael Pfleger before speaking at Saint Sabina Catholic Church Friday, May 25, 2007 in Chicago.

No Catholic can in true conscience support the Democratic party as it exists today. Supporters of abortion, gay unions and more corruption than you can shake a stick at.

As a Catholic with strong pro-life convictions, I am ashamed at anybody like this, especially the religious, but poorly educated.

To be consistent, they have to run an ad criticizing Obama over his support of the slaughter of 1.3 million unborn children a year. I’m sure they will of course. Probably the following Friday. (/sarc)

It’s a new name for Catholics for a Free Choice.

Makes a lot more sense now, doesn’t it?
