Why not? He threw his own grandmother and his own pastor for 20 years under the bus.

It would be easy for him to betray the Jews- or anyone else-for political gain

I was referring to Nadler. He cannot, in the long run, be trusted. Inside his district he's probably thought of as "pretty Jewish", but outside his district he has a more sinister reputation. For instance, he hates babies. You may be able to get away with that and win in New York, but not necessarily everywhere else.

But your response is correct, Obama would betray the Jews, and for a lot less than a little bit of political advantage.
