Conservatives will in future speak of GW Bush in the same way lefties speak of Jimmy Carter, "He's a very good man, but..."

In fact that's how many have been speaking about him the last two years, and, to my mind, rightfully so. The man whom all the pundits said would be the next Ronald Reagan ended by being the 2nd coming of Jimmy C.

Well, not as bad as Carter, but there's a lot of truth in that.

A lot of what's said about Bush focuses on his dignity, which is a fine thing. But he doesn't seem to be much of a force in the country lately when leadership is needed, and that's not a good thing.

His reputation will rise after he leaves office, but there are real limits on how high it will go.

I agree with you that his approval rating after he leavs office will likely be limited at best.

Sadly, IMHO, it will be because of the number of times he failed to govern as a TRUE conservative.....

... conservatives will remember the times he failed us, and the left will remember him as some right-wing radical conservative ALWAYS giving in the to far right, which is far from the truth.

No way he’s anywhere close to Carter. He did have the tax cuts, after all, and he is right about terrorism.

Plus, we can put the blame for the problems with Iran today squarely at the feet of Jimmy Carter. And that could mean the end of the world. Thanks, Jimmy (with support from Biden).
